The black ink produces dark images while color ink produces multicoloered images. Once pictures that appear in color on the computers word documents are dispensed for printing, the color ink makes possible requests. It is impossible to request black charaters from colored ink on the printer.
microsoft logo is in colour and so its printing while everything else on test page is black so its not printing.
the problem is common.you need to do automatic deep cleaning for the ink flow to start once you install new cartridges.go to printer maintanance option and click the option deep cleaning .it will pull out the ink in printer head and it will start working.sometimes also requires cleaning twice.

Something is wrong with your Blach carrier or connections. Use a bit of alcohol and clean the array of gold contacts where the Ink cartridge plugs in. Most of the pins are shutter and piezo control (get the ink on paper) but a few do other stuff like check ink level, # of hours runtime, etc. This is very common problem with inkjet printers. Hope this helps. Also... rub the contacts on the printhead with a pencil eraser to make them shiny and bright.
Seems like the ink has dried in the print head or the control circuit to make the black ink print, is not working.
See my other post in the ip3000 section re. cleaning the print head and give that a go. I have got a print head doing that right now. If I can't ink to go thru the head thru either warm water washing - next step is to drop Video Head Cleaning fluid ( Iso Propyl achohol) onto the tiny screens on the print head to see if that will works its way through.
If you get ink coming thru the print head, and it still wont print black, then it may be an electronic problem. Other than cleaning the gold contacts on the back of the print head, there probably is not a lot more you can do other than look for a working secondhand pprinter - I love mine ( when its going)
Your Brother machine is designed to stop ALL printing operations (printing from the pc, printing received faxes and printing copies or reports) when any of the ink cartridges are empty. This is to ensure the life of the print head and maintain premium print quality. If the unit were to continue printing, print jobs and cleaning cycles would suction air from the dry cartridge and damage the printhead. Even if you print in black only or change the print settings to MONO or GRAYSCALE to avoid printing in color, the programmed cleaning cycles would still suction the dry cartridge, because they are programmed to clean ALL the ink nozzles.
The only way to continue printing is to replace the empty ink cartridge or cartridges.
While memory is available, black and white faxes will continue to be received into memory. If a color fax is being received, the Brother machines HANDSHAKE will request the fax be sent as black and white fax.
All faxes received into memory will automatically print once the ink cartridge is replaced.

the black ink is empty or the ink heads are clogged. Try running the cleaning programing or installing a new black cartridge. Some printers will use the colored ink to print black if you remove the black cartridge completely.
It sounds like the print head is not functioning. If you have taken it out and cleaned it already (the print head) and it still doesn't work you will have to call kodak to request a new print head. They will ship one to you free of charge. If you let them know about how much ink you have wasted from cleaning they will also send you new ink cartridges. They may ask you to perform all the steps from the troubleshooting guides again, just do it again. They seem to follow a script when calling for support so just humor them by doing the same things you have already done a dozen times. Kodak needs to start selling the print heads at Best Buy right next to the ink cartridges! It seems like tons of people have had the same issues with the print heads.
