HP N3290 Notebook Problem Response

Thanks Dipu007. This was my conclusion too. These boards are hard to find. Not made anymore. I saw a used board and inverter for N3290 on Ebay yesterday for $18. Should I take a chance? Not familiar at all with replacing these things - a real novice.

New intel board D845EPI powers up no display or keyboard recognized

I must admit my ignorance, because I have never seen a "Desktop Board". I don't understand what is so magic about an Intel. Long time ago they accomplished something; now they are one of equally competent manufacturers. If we agree that the "Desk Board" is really the Mother Board, then we will have to check everything before we get to MB. You are not giving any information to be able to draw any conclusions, but if you were to send us the following then we can help you fix your computer: (1) Name of Manufacturer and trade name of the Computer; (2) Model Name and Number; (3) Mother Board Identification number. If you have a hard time finding it, we can help you! (4) A detailed accurate description of what was going on before the failure and during the failure. Why did you change the MB? We need everything, so that we can draw conclusions and also duplicate your problem on our equipment. Then we can give you accurate information on how to fix your computer.

I have an HP dv2000 notebook with a fried video chip & mother board (pn# 440777-001). i want to know if any of the other mother boards can be used to replace it such as 440778-001 or any of the other intel...

The best thing to do for that particular model is to call HP tech support..........
They have extended the warranty.....but that too has expired...but that model is a such a lemon that HP has replaced most out of warranty boards.
I think there is only one other board that will fit in that case.....but I dont remember the model.
If you search deep on the net you can find that info.....
I just sent one back and HP was helpful.......but it depends mostly on the warranty date.

Board I was told is dead how or where can one go to get it tested

You can get a new motherboard and use your old hard drives. If you are a novice computer builder I suggest you have a shop do it.

The BIOS is software used by your motherboard only, and not related to your problem at all.

Depending on how much the shop charges it may be cheaper to buy a new computer and put your existing hard drives in the new computer. The programs will have to be reinstalled, which may be impossible if you don't have the discs anymore. The data is safe on the hard drives until you can bypass that problem.

Compaq 252608-001 motherboard

hello sosumo,
see carefully on the board there might be some sign like:
  • HDD-LED
  • PWR SWTCH
  • SPKR
  • RSET
  • PWR LED
These are the points on your board where you have to connect frontpanel connections.

For more details goto HP website and search manual for your product using your board's model no.

Thanks

Hp motherboard

Don't let HP screw you over because the board was faulty. If the board is still under warranty make them replace the board with the same type of board you have. Remember, notebooks can't usually be upgraded the same way PC's can, so speed is always a factor when getting a notebook. 6% is definately noticeable as far as speed is concerned, so make sure you're getting what you paid for.
