Question about GE WSXH208A Front Load Washer

Open Question

The door latch will not realease on the GE WSXh208 washer

I replaced the door latch with the replacement part from GE closed the door and the 'alarm' sounded stating the door was not closed when I attempted to open and reclose the door lock/release would not release. the lock light is off but still will not open- as I tried to pull the door it started to separate so I stopped. I cannot locate any schematics online to assist in opening the unit to try and fogure out how to release the door. The door will not unlock. The wash cycle completely finished and the light is off, but the door will not unlock. I tried finishing the load in different cycles, and it still will not unlock. I tried unplugging it for several hours, still locked. We pried it open with a screwdriver to get the clothes out, now the door will not close. Our guess, it is still in the locked position so won't let the door close.
Called a few repairmen, some say door lock assembly, some say circuit board. Washer is 9 yrs old. Don't they last longer anymore?

SOURCE: washer will not stop spinnig

You probably have a blocked pump. Pull it out and clear the obstructions- buttons, lint, etc

SOURCE: washer load became imbalanced and forced door open, now cannot close door, lock stuck and washer will not run

Perhaps you have to change your lock, this is a sensitive point & will affect the smooth operation of your machine. Re. the inbalance, you hv to screw up & lock the front 2 legs (with check nut), adjust the front legs (screwed up) only to see if the machine does not move during wash/spin.

SOURCE: Won't turn back on and finish cycle

I had the same problem with my washer. Ended up buying a new water discharge pump. Fixed the problem right away. Pump was $137.00 shipped to my house. Installs very easy... 2 Screws... Pull the cover plate at bottom of washer.. The pump is attached to the housing of the drain clean out. If you look in the right hand corner of the bottom of washer you will see it. It is white... Try to cycle your washer. Pull the electricity plug... Make sure no power. Take your hand and put on top of pump motor. My was very hot.... If so, chances are you have a bad motor. You will have to replace the whole assembly... This is a result of keeping the drain clean...

The front door won't close, due to washer lock mechanism restricting door close.

Thank you for your inquiry, kh57ca!

From what you are describing it sounds like the door latch assembly needs to be replaced. This is not a simple DIY job though. I would recommend seeking guidance from a professional technician to properly replace the door latch to avoid any future issues. Some of these intricate parts require precision and patience, therefore when replacing such components or removing them from your appliance, I would suggest seeking professional assistance. I hope this has been beneficial. -Matt

When the machine is switched on there is a clicking sound from the door and the machine won't start. Opening and closing the door and giving it a thump, works after 2 or 3 attempts. Is the problem

Had a similar problem with our Kenmore front load washer, our grandson was caught leaning on door while it was open and it bent the hinge slightly, this misalignment resulted in the latch mechanism trying to lock the door shut( needed as a safety measure to prevent leakage) but it was unable to do so. Had limited luck with lifting the door while shutting it and holding it closed while pushing the start button, but eventually had to replace hinge. Parts man at service desk also advised not to hang wet heavy items on door (don't know why anyone would want to) as the same thing could happen, also don't try slamming door as that could result in costly latch replacement. Hope this was of some help

Whirlpool GHW9400 Door will not latch. Washer turns on, Starts clicking then flashes dL F

Hi, DL means Door Lock Failure while F is either (F80, 82,
84, 85).....

DL flashes if the following conditions occur:
  • Door lid is not closed completely due to interference.
  • Wash media buildup is preventing the lock bolt from extending.
  • Machine/motor control detects open door lid switch when attempting to lock.
  • Machine/motor control cannot determine if door lid is in a locked state.

he code "dr" means the control doesn't see the door switch being closed. This can mean the door catch is broken or the door is bent and not shutting all the way or clothes are preventing the door from shutting all the way but most likely it means the door lock assembly needs to be replaced.
Check the door strike is not broken and make sure the door is shutting evenly. If the door is shut fully and the "dr" error keeps occurring then replacing the lock assembly 131763245 will most likely fix this problem.
The switch can be obtained from the following link: Sears PartsDirect . Remember to unplug the washer first before attempting to change the switch.
The image below contains the instructions to access and change the latch. Changing the latch is easy the tough part is putting the spring back on. Sometimes it helps to have two extra hands when trying to reinstall the wire/spring.
I hope this information helps you resolve this problem but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.

I close washer door but it wont go through cycle

Check to see if one of the two tabs on the door latch assembly are broken. If one is broken, replace the door latch. If the door latch is ok, you might have to replace the door switch and the door latch. To replace the door switch you have to remove the front panel. Remove the two screws holding the door switch assembly in place and drop the door switch assembly down into the bottom of the washer. Remove the wires and transfer to the new switch. Reach up and line up the new switch and install the two screws. Remove the two screws on the door latch assembly on the door, and remove old door latch. Install the new latch and replace the front panel. I hope this helps.

What does DLF stand for? I can't continue my laundry and after pushing cancel several times even holding it in the door won't open. I tried to drain and spin and it says the same code HELP PLEASE

The error code is actually "Fdl". This is an indication of a door latch failure. If the door latch fails to lock, the washer will not complete any wash or spin cycle. The error code can be attributed to either a failed door latch of failed Central Control Unit (CCU). Check for the following:

1. Check the door latch mechanism to make sure nothing is stuck inside preventing it from latching properly.

2. Check the door to make sure the door catch is not broken off. (This is what inserts into the door latch).

3. Listen to see if you can hear the latch attempting to close when you start a cycle. It usually take 4 unsuccessful attempts to lock before an error gets generated. A latch attempting to lock is a sign that the CCU relay may be working.

4. Remove the washer top panel by removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then come off. Inspect the interconnecting wiring between the door latch and the CCU. Disconnect each door latch connector plug (one at a time) on the latch and at the CCU and reseat them. Sometimes a dirty connection can cause erroneous error codes. CAUTION: Make sure you UNPLUG the washer before servicing.

NOTE: There is a technical data sheet that comes with each washer located behind the lower toe panel under the door. The panel comes off by removing the screws under the lower front edge. With the screws removed, the panel will drop down, then come off. If the tech sheet is not located directly behind the panel, it will be affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls. The tech sheet lists all diagnostics, troubleshooting advice, wiring diagrams and error codes. Refer to the tech sheet for test point references.

When I try to start the washer, the door won't lock and all the lights flash. How can I fix this please?

the door latch is your problem...it is either mis-aligned or bent or broken....if it does not close, it does not activate the interlock for normal funtion.....the interlock switch might be just connecting enough to arc on the inside causing your lights to flash..it might have already arced enough to be beyond reasonable state for normal function in which case...you need to have the switch replaced with a new one.

Kenmore front load washer door

A lot of these errors on these front loaders can be resolved by simply unplugging the washer for 30 minutes to reset the computer. You may also attempt to manipulate the door latch by using the manual release lever to see if you can get the latching mechanism to stay open. The following link explains how to do this:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r622155-kenmore_elite_whirlpool_duet_door_jammed

This is normally used when the door is latched with the door shut, but it still may apply in your case. If you attempt any of these preliminary checks and the latch still does not work properly, I would recommend replacing it. The next link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587965-door_latch_replacement_fdl_error

Hopefully you will not require any replacement parts. But, if you do, a replacement latch can be found at searspartsdirect.com or repairclinic.com. Just type in your complete model number to perform a search for parts. I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

My HT3 washer door will not lock. The washer will close and click but the door does not lock closed. It will work if you hold the door closed.

It sounds like your door latch assembly is worn out, or the door gasket is not seated properly. Inspect the rubber gasket around the wash tub opening and make sure it is seated around the door opening properly. If the gasket checks okay, the latch should engage and hold the door shut. If it doesn't, I would recommend replacing it. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587965-door_latch_replacement_fdl_error

A replacement latch can be ordered on line at searspartsdirect.com or repairclinic.com. Compare the two sites for the best price. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if you require further assistance.

Error code

Fdl is a door latch error.  What it means is that the Central Control Unit (CCU), which is the main computer, has lost communications with the door latch.  If you can't hear the latch clicking when you try to start a wash, chances are the door latch is broken.  Sometimes they will click,  but the internal latching mechanism may be damaged.  If the door latch fails to close, the washer will not begin a cycle.  If you provide me with your model number (located along the inside of the door) I can get a part number, price and where you can get a replacement.  I can also give you step-by-step instructions on how to replace the latch.  This is a fairly simple problem that the do-it-yoursefler can accomplish with a little guidance.  Let me know.
