Question about Electrolux Epic 6500 Vacuum

? light is on and vacuum cleaner not running

I was vacuuming and put nozzle down and the vacuum stopped. Changed bag - nothing, checked plug - nothing. On reaout the "?" mark light is on.

According to the manual, the machine doesn't "think" there is a bag. If you open it up and remove the bag, there should be a small button in the lower right hand corner where the cardboard top of the bag rests. Depressing this button should make the "?" light go out, and the machine run if it's in the on position. Return the bag to the unit and make sure the bag is depressing this switch when you close the door. Good Luck!!

Bag light wont turn off


Hi there! The vacuum may be still sensing dirt in the cleaner. Try wiping the area down in and around the bag port. Be sure you are replacing the bag with a genuine Hoover Type Q bag. Also, when assembling the bag remember to slide the red bag door lock to the right to lock it on. If the check bag indicator light still comes on there may be an issue with the sensor on the vacuum. We would recommend taking your vacuum in to a Hoover authorized service center for repair. Hope this helps! Service Center Locator

How to Unclog Vacuum Hose


you may have to make something out of heavy spring material so you can push it down the hose and be able to manipulate it.simular to what plumbers use.

Will not turn on when plugged in


Hi There,

So when this light is displaying, it's says "Bag Full or Clog" on the indicator. If you have changed the bag, and it's still showing this light, it means that you either have a clog in the vacuum, or your filters are dirty, which is reducing the suction and making the machine think that your bag is full. If your machine is actually cutting off, this indicates that your machine is definitely clogged, or something is stuck inside which is causing the motor to not get air flow, and cauing the machine to over heat. When it shuts off like this, it's a protection system that prevents any damage from happening to the motor when it can't breathe and starts to overheat.

My guess is that there is probably a clog in the machine somewhere, or the filters are dirty. Here's what you may do to diagnosis the machine, and try to isolate the clog to find out where it is in the vacuum.

Step 1. Remove the hose and wand assembly from the vacuum cleaner completely. You may do this by pressing the two tabs on the end of the hose that plugs into the vacuum cleaner:

With the hose and the wand removed from the vacuum, it should look like this:

Step 2. Now turn the vacuum cleaner on and check to see if the red light comes on while the hose and the wand have been removed. If the light comes on, then this indicates that your filter is dirty (or the PCB electric board is bad if the filter is clean) and needs to be replaced.

Step 2. Re-attach the hose and wand back on the vacuum, but just the end of the hose that goes into the vacuum cleaner, leave the wand out of the vacuum cleaner so it looks like this:

Turn the machine on now as if you were using the attachment hose to clean corners or above the floor and see if the red light comes on here. Also listen to the noise the motor makes and see if the noise changes when you put the hose back on the vacuum cleaner. If the red light appears, or if the motor makes a higher pitched noise now, then this indicates that you have a clog in your hose or wand. You may verify this by remove the hose again from the vacuum, and also removing the wand from the hose by pressing the hose release button on the wand and pulling the hose out of the wand. Look down both of the parts and see if you can see thru both sides. If you're not able to see light through the hose, or the wand, this indicates this is where the clog is. You may take a metal clothes hanger, and try removing the clog this way.

Step 3. If the red light did not display with the wand not inserted into the vacuum, put the wand back into the vacuum cleaner as if you were vacuuming the floors:

Turn the machine on, and see if the red light comes on in this position. If the light does come on, then this indicates that you have a clog in the bottom of the vacuum cleaner. To check and see the clog in the bottom of the machine, I find it easiest to remove the upper bag housing from the vacuum cleaner completely so you're just looking at the bottom power nozzle of the vacuum cleaner. There's a button at the bottom of the machine that is either a grey, or yellow color depending on what color your vacuum is. Simply press this button in, and lift upwards on the handle or the bag housing at the same time:

Step 4. After the bag housing has been removed, turn the lower part of the vacuum upside down so the brushes are facing upwards. There's a little orange flap on the bottom of the machine that is actually a clog port. Almost every time there is a clog in a Sebo, this is where I typically find the clog. Open up this orange colored trap door, and look to see if you can see any obstruction or clog underneath of here:

Step 5. You may rotate the neck of the power nozzle part towards you so that you may look inside to see if you see any obstructions inside:

Step 5. You may also remove the brushes from the vacuum and look behind the brushes at the suction port, or the area where the suction goes through the vacuum to see if you see anything obstructing the suction here.

These are really the only places that the Sebo can get clogged. If you checked all of these areas, and the red light is still displaying, this means that your PC Board that controls this indicator has gone bad, and needs to be replaced. If this is the case, please just reply to this repair using the comment field, and I'll be more then happy to help you through the replacement of replacing the PCB Board.

Bag showing as full when a new bag is in and all hoses unblocked


Hi There,

My Riccar 8850 stopped running. Changed the bag and cleared all hoses. Light comes on but the motor doesn't operate. I can turn the brush freely by hand.

If the light on your Riccar 8850 is coming on, but the motor is not coming on, this indicates that your motor has gone bad. There is a reset switch on the back of the vacuum cleaner that sometimes trips if the bag is too full, or the filters are not maintained, but when this happens nothing on the vacuum comes on including the headlight. If the headlight is coming on, this indicates that electricity is making it down to the headlight, and the current is going through, but just not activating the motor. This is a tell tale sign of your motor being bad, and needing replacement. You can purchase the motor for the Riccar 8850 (12 AMP, 2 stage motor, Riccar part D113-1700 $122.44) from GoVacuum by giving us a call, as we don't yet have this part on our website.

I hope this helped you. We have been fixing Riccar's for over 30 years, and they are great vacuum cleaners, and the age of the model 8850 is probably the life expectancy of this vacuum cleaner.

It stopped sucking but the brush still spins.


Hi! You have most likely, A blockage. Open up your zipper, take the paper bag out. Inspect the opening where you bag attaches. Do you see debris? If you do, try pulling it out. Now, you might want to do this next step outside, or in the doorway, or garage. With the nozzle facing away from you, turn on the machine, you still have the bag out, and the zipper undone, this will tell you if the clog is further down. Air should burst out of the opening. Be careful, because debris could also burst out. If this is the case, then you shoul;d be able to replace your bag, and zip it up and get to vacuuming. If not, then you need to unhook the bag from th front bottom of the cleaner and uhnhook the wand. It either turns counter-clockwise, or has a rubber covered release button. Here you should be able to see further blockage. Somtimes you can reach the blockage from the bottom of the cleaner where the opening is in the nozzle. Do all of this with the cleaner unplugged for safety. With these steps, you should be able to free the clog and get back to vacuuming. Oreck is nice because without all the bells and whistles it is a pretty easy machine to keep maintainanced. Remember to have your vacuum checked out at least once a year by a qualified vacuum doctor. Kirby G4 stopped working


maybe the impeller broke, that is the most common reason for '' loud noise''....then you must remember that the kiby will not switch on [ all G models ] if the bag and the front nozzle is not properly attached.....

Kenmore progressive/direct drive-- roller stopped turning


We have the same vacuum & had the same problem. As the vacuum ages & the hose is periodically removed from the nozzle to use with the attachments, the white switch, adjacent to the nozzle connection, wears. If the hose is not fully reinserted or if the attachment notches are inadvertently aligned with the white stitch, the agitator may not work reliably. Assuring the hose is fully inserted, with the locking notches away from the switch has eliminated this problem with our vacuum cleaner.

Won't start.


There is a reset button at the back of the powerhead. The user manual can be downloaded from the electrolux website, although I didn't find it very useful. There was some info on how to change the powerhead drive belt.
