Question about Microwave Ovens

Open Question

Microwave casing gets very hot when used

When I use my mwave, the casing is getting hot each time. Today, I used it for about 7 mins and the case was very hot. It took a good while to cool down, even though unplugged. Are you able to help please?

    This can be caused when
the internal cooling fan is not running properly or by a magnetron that is
    failing.

    When I say internal
cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn
    on and off manually.

    I'm instead talking
about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you
    microwave.

    It is vital that the
cooling fan runs, or the magnetron will be destroyed.

    Is that fan running properly?

    Any unusual noises? Is
it louder or quieter than usual?

Please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

The most likely causes are an open thermostat on your magnetron or the internal fuse. You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your base model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 The fuse is shown on diagram 5 and the thermostat on the magnetron is on diagram 8. Did you happen to spray any cleaner directly onto the keypad? Hope not. Just wanted to exclude that poissibility to save time.

Assuming this model does not have a feature allowing you to turn off the turntable via the control panel, the motor msay be failing. Or you may have a bad door switch.

SOURCE: microwave gets very hot on

If it gets hot enough were it is uncoftable to lay your hand on it then there is most likely a problem. If it is a new unit I beleive I would return it. Good luck.

SOURCE: microwave dish/tray rotates intermittently.

If the turntable is not turning, you will get hot spots and uneven heating.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

You can get Samsung parts here.

It sounds like either a filter is clogged, an air vent in the back is blocked, or the internal cooling fan is not running.

We have a sound clip here of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

This overheating can happen if you put it in a cabinet or push it against a wall.

Many Emerson microwave owner's manuals are available for free download here.

The most likely cause is the magnetron or the inverter board, if the microwave was manufactured 7 years or less. It is cheaper in most cases to replace the microwave oven.

While in use my microwave shut off and stopped working. Could it be a fuse? If it is a fuse where would it be located.

mwaves shut off when they overheat and take a time to recover. This is a failsafe to prevent fire.make sure the unit has plenty of airflow around it and the vents are not blocked off ( hutches are notorious for overheating Mwaves) Sometimes the steam from a potato or a cup of water will overheat the sensor and cause it to shut down.

If it is a fuse the whole outer case hasd to be removed and it's usua;;y top left or right on the inner pod.

WONT START UP AFTER USING FOR 4 MINS OPEN DOOR

The oven is overheating. Ensure that all external vents on all sides are perfectly clear and that there is sufficient clearance around them as specified in the instruction manual. Also ensure that the vents inside the oven cavity are clean and clear from obstruction.

If this does not fix your problem then you probably have a failed cooling fan, this will entail removing the outer casing and testing that all fans work correctly, most microwave ovens have just one but many have two and sometimes three. A failed fan repair will require the use of a multimeter and some general electrical repair competency; if in doubt get it done professionally as some of the voltages beneath the casing of a microwave oven far exceed mains voltage and can kill you.

Labour rates for fan replacement are generally cheap as, like most jobs on any microwave oven, component replacement is usually very quick and easy for a competent person.

Microwave randomly just goes out. Have to go to circuit breaker box and flip the breaker. Can then reset the microwave.

Is it just the microwave or are there other things riunning on the same circuit?
Electric jug, dishwasher. TV

If nothing else is on at the same time and the Mwave trips then it time to get a new Mwave. But have an electrician put in an additional circuit to lessen the load on that one circuit. Cost about $70-100 depending on distant of meterbox to the main plug.

My new (less than 7 months old) JVM1540 microwave just quit. It was working multipLe times earlier today. The main breaker does not show as being 'tripped' and appears to be working. Help..??

Take the microwave back to where you got it, whatever is going on it should still be covered under warranty. it may just be a fuse but a warranty is a warranty. Make sure to take your manual with you just in case they give you any ****. Warranty is located on pg. 15?

CUP HANDLES GET TO HOT WHEN I WARM COFFEE.

It is your cup. The handle density or moisture content of the handle is causing the mwave to heat it. The rest of the cup contains a liquid (coffee?) that is absorbing any heat generated in the body of the cup. Use a different cup!
