It sounds like the video card could not handle the monitor in the board room - As it is unless you have a graphics based laptop you rarely get a high quality video card built into your laptop.
Causes aside boot your computer in safe mode - This is done by tapping F8 several times during startup
A menu should pop up - select boot in safe mode
A long list of text will pass in front of the monitor - Do not fret this is just Windows telling you what it is loading.
Once at your desktop you should be able to see everything clearly
Right click on your desktop
Goto Properties
Settings
Drag the Screen Resolution down to something more appropriate e.g. 1024 x 768
SOURCE: CD ROM connection
I recommend to get a external CD Drive that has a USB connection that should work fine to your notebook.
