Question about Brother MFC 8500 All-In-One Laser Printer

Brother MFC8500 not responding

The printer used to work, but now I cannot print through neither the USB port nor the parallel port on my Brother MFC-8500. Has this printer given up the ghost?

Ack, double negative. Bad English...

I've had this same issue. It seems to start happening when the device enters sleep mode, it's like the printer just vanishes. When you remove the printer completely and reinstall it it works again until the printer goes into sleep mode then it disappears again. I've had two do this and once they start I haven't found any way to stop it from happening periodically and with ever increasing frequency until we finally get rid of them. Suspect some level of i/o controller or board failure.

If you tell it to print and the item goes into your Que for printing. In that screen click on the printer tab... In the drop down verify that the "Use Printer OffLine" does NOT have a check mark next to it.

Don't know how to connect HL-2040 printer to laptop.


If the printer does not have a USB port and the computer does not have a parallel port then you will need to get a USB to Parallel print adapter. One end is USB to plug into the computer and the other end has a standard parallel port to plug into the printer. Install instructions will come with the adapter. Try any computer shop such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc etc.

Keep getting the error message "Printer not responding".


How are you connecting the printer to the computer? (USB, parallel, ethernet) Make sure there are no error messages/lights blinking and that the unit is on.

If you are using an USB cable, try a new cable. Also try a direct connection if you have a USB hub or print server in use. Make sure the USB ports are active (not disabled for power saving or security). Test the port with a known working device.

If you are using the parallel cable, make sure it is properly secured. Also try a new cable. Again try a direct connection instead of a print server.

If you are using an ethernet connection, again try a new cable. Check if your firewall is blocking communication with the printer. (Test this by temporarily turning off the firewall. If it starts working, make the printer a trusted part of the network. With some firewalls, you may need to unblock communication for both incoming and outgoing communication with the printer.)

Product scans but then I can't find the result


The first thing I recommend you try is a new data cable. Scanners require bi-directional communication and will fail even when the printer works. Similarly go for a direct connection instead of using a print server or USB hub. (I have a scanner that had the same problem - the preview scan started but no image saved due to a bad cable.) If you are using a parallel port connection, make sure that bi-directional communication is set for the port (in the BIOS). If you use a USB to parallel port adapter, make sure it is a bi-directional (for scanner) adapter.

USB to Parallel connection (Panasonic KX-P1121)


I would recommend buying a Printer parallel port connection (PCI to LTP1), install it into the system, and use the printer parallel cable.

Trying to connect from USB laptop to parallel printer


You can't have a double hook up to it,When the parallel port is used the usb port is disabled and when you use the usb port the parallel port is disable.This is done to prevent damage to the printer.You can network the laptop with the pc and print that way though

Printer doesn't work when use usb parallel converter.


Forget about using parallel converter. Just use the USB cable it works best anyway.

Easiest way is this.

1: Turn printer on. (Green light. ready to print)

2: DISCONNECT the usb cable from the PC.

3 DELETE the Zebra LP2844 & Zdesigner drivers from the printers & Faxes folder. Just highlight them and hit the delet key. Don't worry Iknow what I'm doing.

4: Plug in your USB cable back into PC.

Just sit back and wait, your PC will automatically detect your printer and re-load your driver software.

in FS1010 printer usb port avilable u can connect the printer through usb port .

please delet ur printer driver and reconfigure it . use a usb cable to connect the printer it will work.one more u can put ur printer in network

HP LaserJet II p Plus will not print


Hi,

I am assuming that you are using Vista. Based on your post/description:
1. the HP Compaq 6710b has no parallel port;
2. the HP LaserJet IIP Plus is only capable of either serial or parallel connection;
3. hence you're attempting a USB to Parallel interface;
4. the printer is installed in your notebook and is set to USB port;
5. from the printer a test print can be performed but not from the Printer Properties in your notebook;
6. all printing jobs initiated from the notebook results in an "Error".

With the above in mind, may I point/suggest that:
a. Windows Vista driver will only enable your HP LaserJet IIP Plus' basic functions to work. It is not 100% compatible;
b. alternately, you can try using the XP installation CD/drivers of the printer;
c. the compatibility issue may be compounded by the USB to parallel interface;
d. the USB to parallel interface may be hampered by a known Vista USB issue;
e. you can try patching/updating the Vista USB driver. Since this has been a recognized issue with Vista, Microsoft has posted a fix for this here or here.
f. verify that the printer does not display a 22 or 40 Error.

If the printing concern has not been rectified after completion of the above procedures, you may need to:
i. download and install HP Universal PostScript Print Driver; or
ii. consider using a wireless print server connected to the parallel port of the printer; or
iii.consider replacing your printer. Sorry.

No lights on network card mean that you will need to replace network port/card on printer if cable and connection is sound
