My brand new seagate disk failed,not recognised by any pc and bios.The motor works, it can be heard. The recovery company i sent it diagnosed that,without opening it,obliged by the contract, MFT is damaged. I know what that means. My question is: HOW did they get access to the disk? I guess that they replaced an electronic faulty part. What else? They were unwilling to answer. In case I am not wrong I'll just have to find a new electronic part and then try to collect the messed bits and bytes with the appropriate software by myself. Since the disk was new, the .jpg data that i'm exclusively interested in must have been written in neighbouring sectors.

It rarely happens that MFT becomes corrupted. NTFS stores a copy of MFT that is called MFT mirror. If problem occurs, NTFS tries to synchronize these copies.
You can try to run Check Disk utility from Windows environment. Or if Windows is not bootable, boot from bootable CD-ROM to Recovery Console and run CHKDSK utility that could help you.
If the damage to MFT is serious, standard utilities might help you and you'll see "Drive cannot be accessed" message when trying to access the drive in Windows Explorer.
you can't recognise your hard disk, but you can rectify your data from your damaged hard disk ( by using data recovery softwares ( ex: ontrack data recovery etc., ) ). This is the only option
& you can't use that hard disk in future.

Try to go into the BIOS of the computer and see if the hard disk is visible there.
To get into the BIOS you usually press either F2, Delete or F10, repeatedly, immediately after turning on the computer.
If the drive is not listed there, I would check the data and power cables are correctly connected to the mainboard and hard disk - unlikely but worth checking.
If its not a cable issue, then the hard disk may have failed.
If the drive is listed in the BIOS, I would test the hard disk for errors using a boot CD - such as Seagate's Seatools disk - its a free download, burn the image to dvd, boot from the cd and test the hard disk. It works on pretty much any disk, not just seagate drives.
If it fails to see the hard disk, I'd remove the drive and test in another system.
If it can see the drive and finds many bad sectors, I'd stop it and seek professional support if you care about your files.
Otherwise, buy a new drive, connect it up the same, and then use the recovery disks you have to install the OS again.
That error code means that your hard disk has failed. You can use the hard disk diagnostic test in BIOS for further confirmation. If either short or long test does not pass or causes your PC to reboot, the hard disk must be replaced
Unfortunately the normal solution for this is:
Locate your Recovery disc set or usb recovery media. I hope you took the time to make it.( your HP software asked you to do this)
Purchase a new SATA2 hard disk of equal (500 GB) or greater size. Remove the failed disk and install the new one.
Follow the instructions here and restore your original operating system to the new hard disk.
Do you have backup software? If so, do a "disk and partition" backup. This essentially creates an image of your system, even if you have multiple hard disks. Decent backup software (I won't mention any brands except the one I use: Acronis) will allow for a boot time recovery of your entire system, either by inserting a post-bios command -- which will appear on your screen before windows startup with a message like "Press F12 for system recovery", or you should press whatever key your system allows for boot order and boot from the recovery disk you can create from the software.
You can even now immediately create a Windows backup to an appropriately sized USB mounted disk (even the terabyte ones are relatively cheap) and a Windows Recovery Disk...the recovery disk should be inserted and use boot order F-key...good luck
You need to set one of the drives to be 'master' and the other to be 'slave'. This is done by positioning jumpers on the back of the harddrives. Pretty sure that on the drives is explained somewhere how to position the jumper, for several options.
I understand the problem you are going through and it is due to the fact that win xp sp2 install an NTFS filesytem on its hard drive and this file system was designed to be secure in a way that you don't remove disk drive or add disk drives just like that.Now the best solution would be to just reinstall you xp machine with sp2 with the hard drive already in the case.In this way xp will be able to recognize it as one of its own drives and now you will have access to it.
