Question about Gateway 835GM (835GH) PC Desktop

Hard disk failed

My brand new seagate disk failed, not recognised by any pc and bios. The motor works, it can be heard. The recovery company i sent it diagnosed that, without opening it,obliged by the contract, MFT is damaged. I know what that means. My question is: HOW did they get access to the disk? I guess that they replaced an electronic faulty part. What else?
They were unwilling to answer.
In case I am not wrong I'll just have to find a new electronic part and then try to collect the messed bits and bytes with the appropriate software by myself. Since the disk was new, the .jpg data that i'm exclusively interested in must have been written in neighbouring sectors.

Ok,i'll try both your solutions and see if any works and after doing it i'll inform you again. But in advance I wonder if that can be done since my disk is invisible at all by my pc.I'll check it.Thanks for your time.

Teis ,thank you for your help but it didn't work.My disk can't be recognised by my system.
I gave it for recovery. If not I'll try MHDD but it is difficult to use.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

It rarely happens that MFT becomes corrupted. NTFS stores a copy of MFT that is called MFT mirror. If problem occurs, NTFS tries to synchronize these copies.
You can try to run Check Disk utility from Windows environment. Or if Windows is not bootable, boot from bootable CD-ROM to Recovery Console and run CHKDSK utility that could help you.
If the damage to MFT is serious, standard utilities might help you and you'll see "Drive cannot be accessed" message when trying to access the drive in Windows Explorer.

In this case I recommend you to use third party software, like Active@ UNERASER for DOS:

or Active@ File Recovery for Windows:
to access and save your files to another drive, and then reformat the partition.

Dear sir

you can't recognise your hard disk, but you can rectify your data from your damaged hard disk ( by using data recovery softwares ( ex: ontrack data recovery etc., ) ). This is the only option
& you can't use that hard disk in future.

Hi, I accidentally dropped my 2 tb Seagate expansion disc and now its making funny noises andm it wont even read on my windows 8 computer. Can some 1 help me please?

unfortunately it appears that the internals are shot
if the funny noise is a clicking sound or squeal then the repair is a new hd unit as they are generally not repairable.

I get an error message boot failure

Doesn't sound too good.
Try to go into the BIOS of the computer and see if the hard disk is visible there.
To get into the BIOS you usually press either F2, Delete or F10, repeatedly, immediately after turning on the computer.
If the drive is not listed there, I would check the data and power cables are correctly connected to the mainboard and hard disk - unlikely but worth checking.
If its not a cable issue, then the hard disk may have failed.

If the drive is listed in the BIOS, I would test the hard disk for errors using a boot CD - such as Seagate's Seatools disk - its a free download, burn the image to dvd, boot from the cd and test the hard disk. It works on pretty much any disk, not just seagate drives.
If it fails to see the hard disk, I'd remove the drive and test in another system.
If it can see the drive and finds many bad sectors, I'd stop it and seek professional support if you care about your files.
Otherwise, buy a new drive, connect it up the same, and then use the recovery disks you have to install the OS again.

Hope this helps.

I bumped my Seagate 1 TB USB 20 Hard Drive off my computer. I tested it immediately and it was still detected by my PC and seemed to be fine. Later I heard a beeping sound coming from it and it is no...

In my opinion, the r/w heads have crashed on the surface or malfunctioned so that the voice coil has retracted the heads and will not allow the disk to function, thus the beeping. You have to decide if the data is worth recovering, i.e many bucks for a recovery company to get your data. If you open it up, it will allow dust in that will contaminate the data. In order to recovery the data, the disk has to be opened in a ultra clean environment and the disk taken from that drive and placed in another drives electronics and heads so that the disk will operate and your data can be copied out to another drive. As you can see it is a labor intensive process that will cost. Also the data recovery company cannot or will not guarantee success, and you still pay for them to try.

St3160827as seagate hdd is not detecting in bios , other new seagate hdd is working fine with the same connection(sata cable and power card) I have imp data in that hdd ,pls help me how to get data...

Turn your computer off.
Disconnect the power cord.
Disconnect all other disk-drives and CD/DVD drives, leaving only the "suspect" drive connected.
Restart your computer, and enter BIOS SETUP, and see if the drive is detected, and how it is connected (primary/secondary, master/slave).

Read the model-number and serial-number and manufacture-date on the disk's label,
and access Seagate's web-site, to check the warranty-status of the drive.
If the warranty is valid, Seagate will replace the drive, at minimal cost to you.

Search online for a professional "data recovery service". For a significant fee, they can repair your disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your files to a new disk-drive.

How can i solve this problem..? my 500gb hard disk damage... the bios says that the 3rd master hard disk error.. pls.. help me..

I myself would purchase the external USB empty SATA Hardrive interface box and then connect it to your PC to see if it at least recognize the drive.
If you really need the files from the drive if this tactic doesn't work then I would find a Data Recovery company that can pull your information off the disk and send it to you. 'You will loose the drive but recover the information'.
Not cheep at all. Usually 3 to $400 charge.

After data is recovered, it should be moved to another drive to keep safe. The drive that was recovered has to be reformatted and checked for errors before storing more data.
