Need schematic for altec acs 495 speakers

My 10 year old acs 495s are starting to hum badly. I'm certain that the power supply regulator or filter caps are going. I would like to obtain the schematic but both Dell and Altec say they don't have it.

SOURCE: output board for Altec Lansing ADA995

I had the same problem. One day I heard two pops and the speaker, including the power light, were dead. Neither Dell nor Altec Lansing support them. They're throw-aways, unless you know a genius electronics technician.

SOURCE: Altec Lansing ada745 fuse

It is written on the sub. You can also take it out or look at the spare which is taped to the power cord wall plug. I believe it's T1A 250V fuse

SOURCE: Finding replacement Power Supply for Altec Lansing

I did the same! Thanks for suggesting a call to Customer Support (800)258+3288. The guy didn't seem overly pleased to help, but he did promise to send me a new power supply. Also, he said that they don't make the iM7 anymore, but I had already found out that the iM9 uses the same power supply. I, too, will wait and see.

SOURCE: Altec Lansing ada745 fuse

Yes, it's a 1A 250V glass fuse, 0.75" (1.9cm) long. The only other number on the fuse is "239", if that means anything. You take it out by putting a flat screwdriver in the slot on the fuse holder cap, turn counter-clockwise, and pull out once it releases.

SOURCE: What's the volt & amps of Altec Lansing AVS300 2.1 speaker system

Your adapter is Part No. AVX300-A6859, Model No. 9701-00748-IUND.
Or You could get a universal that is rated for output of 18volt DC, 650ma, Center Positive.
I have used a 15volt DC, 900 ma with no problem, but I never run the volume high.

Good Luck

How can I splice Altec Lansing amplified speaker system 221 to ac power supply cord instead of the computer cord

Not a good idea. The receptacle that the computer cord plugs into has EMI filters in it. Bypassing it would cause an AC hum that you'd never be able to get rid of.

Disassemble altec lansing acs 495 speaker

The cost of fixing low-cost electronics is prohibitive. Most are built with the view that they cannot be opened without damaging the product. Parts are not available from the manufacturer because they are assembled in China and the components are ordered for a run of complete products, not spare parts. If you think it is your only option, most electronic repair shops can figure out circuits and components, but be prepared to be charged more than you paid for the product.
Asking for replacement components on Fixya is fruitless. Unless some has taken apart a product EXACTLY like your own, you will get no answer.

Speakers started making a humming noise

HI:
Usually with audio humming, the cause is due to a bad capacitor on the amplifer portion of the unit. Bad filter capactor in the AC power suppy will cause whats known as AC ripple to enter the system causing motorboating sound or humming. Have the unit check by a technician for poor regulated DC voltage.

No sound. I have owned the speaker system for over 10 years. The speakers had been working fine until after I disconnected them to travel with in my car trunk, then reconnect to my desktop computer, also...

Try changing the fuse. It's located below the power cord. A friend gave me the set I now have because they had stopped working. Turned out the fuse had blown.

AVS500 Woofer has low Freq.pulse.front and back speakers working. Need circuit diagram to trouble shoot . Henry

Is the power supply AC or DC. I had a similar problem with my boston acoustics speakers, and I was able to swap the power supply for a DC output one of the same voltage and amperage and the hum went fully away. it is an inverter circut that went bad in my woofer.

Subwoofer Emits a Buzzing Tone

The 2200 uF capacitor in the power supply has gone bad and the humming is a 60 Hz from the rectification of AC to 18 vDC.  Either get a new power supply or take apart the power supply and replace the bad cap.

Humming BX8

Hello docjgg,

This sounds like it may be a loose connection (ground) generation common mode noise or it may be a capacitor in the power supply going bad and not providing enough filtering of the AC voltage (allowing for 60 cycle hum). You should get a schematic for the speaker or just take some rule of thumb measurements of the power supply output, with an oscilloscope (you will be looking for ripple voltage, what you could do is use one of your good speakers as a comparison of good to bad.

If you do not want to work on this yourself, you could take the speaker to any TV repair shop or audio repair shop.

I hope this helps

Thank you,
