Hey Carl, I have a Lincoln 225 ac dc cracker box. It does not have the 14 pin remote hookup. Can you help by looking in the Lincoln manual? Thanks, Mike G

I think I can help you do this, let's start with the general and you can ask questions if we don't cover everything you need.

The HF251D connects to the welding machine using 3 cables, you connect the Electrode terminal on the welding machine (the Lincoln) to the Electrode In terminal inside the HF251. Connect the Work terminal on the Lincoln to the Work In/Out inside the HF251, also connect the work (ground) clamp of your torch to this terminal. Be careful to select the correct size cables for the maximum current you intend to weld with.

The 3rd cable is the gray 14 pin round control cable that comes out the back of the HF251, it needs to be plugged into your Lincolns RMT14 socket. You'll also need to make sure that the Lincoln is set for remote control, this is usually a switch on the front panel. I'm pretty sure that the remote control cables have a standard pin layout, but we can check this by comparing the specs in both owners manuals.

After that you connect the torch and gas bottle to the HF251, start the Lincoln, and TIG weld until you're happy.

I've got a manual for the HF251 and can get a shop manual for it if we need it. What I'm not sure about is your Lincoln - what model is it exactly?

regards,
Carl

I couldn't find a schematic for your cracker box, but that's OK. Here is a schematic of the HF251 that I think you have:

As you may be able to see, there are 2 main consequences of not having a remote control on the power supply, a) No output control so the torch is "hot" any time the cracker box is turned on, and b) No current control on the torch - you get the fixed value you dial in on the front of the cracker box.
You'll get the HF for striking a TIG arc either as soon as you turn on the crackerbox and then for aobut a second, or continuously depending on the setting of the HF switch.

If all of that will work for you connect it as described but ignore the 14 pin remote cable.

You need to find a Miller welder unit that will accept the input from the 251.

Miller econotwin control stuck

Is the amperage adjust crank or the HF switch not working?
To repair the amperage crank you need to buy a new shunt block screw @ $ 80.00 or make your own by threading 8" length of 3/8" BRASS rod (dont use steel).
Can send pics of procedure.

Depending in the city you are in. Here in N California the average price for the Miller Bobcat 225 is 3,425.00. Try your local Praxair Distribution welding store.
