http://majorgeeks.com/DriverMax_d5260.htmlWin7/Vista/XP . DriverMax is a new tool that allows you to download the latest driver updates for your computer. No more searching for rare drivers on discs or on the web or inserting one installation CD after the other. Just create a free account, log in, and start downloading the updates that you need. You can also export all your current drivers (or just the ones that work ok) to a folder or a compressed file. After reinstalling Windows you will have everything in one place! Most of the situations when Windows is running slower are caused by faulty driver installations. Windows stores all versions of older drivers just in case you want to go back; sometimes it messes up older versions with more recent ones. The Export Wizard will only export the drivers you select by copying the needed files to a folder or a compressed ZIP file. After reinstalling Windows all drivers will be back in place in less than 5 minutes - sparing you of searching, inserting disc after disk and losing precious time. The Import Drivers wizard allows you to install all the drivers that you exported earlier. The entire operation might take up to 5-10 minutes. Just one single computer restart will be required after all drivers are reinstalled! DriverMax is able to display a complete report of all drivers (versions, release dates) installed on your system. This feature can also be very useful when you want to analyze the differences between the drivers installed on different machines. Hope this helps
The first thing to try is open Device Manager and uninstall the existing driver for serial ata (SATA) controller. Afterwards, use the Drivers and Utilities CD that you received from Dell to install the Chipset driver depending on the model of your Dell computer. Alternatively, you can go to htttp://support.dell.com and click the Drivers Home link. Enter the 7-digit alphanumeric service tag of your computer , click Continue. Select the operating system version you have, then download the main Chipset driver for your computer. Install it after the download. In addition, check for the Serial ATA category on the drivers page and download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager if available for your computer. Feel free to let us know how it goes.
Good morning! Please make sure that the drive’s power and SATA cables are properly connected. If the Serial ATA host adapter card is installed in a 64-bit PCI slot on the system motherboard, move the card to a 32-bit slot.
Verify that only one power cable (either SATA or legacy) is connected to the drive. Check to see that the power connector and SATA interface cable are securely attached and that the
SATA host adapter card is properly seated in the PCI slot.
The Serial ATA interface connects each drive in a point-to-point configuration with the built-in SATA port on the motherboard or with the SATA host adapter card; therefore eliminating the master/slave relationship as required with EIDE. Each drive utilizes its own
cable for data transfer rates. Jumper settings for Western Digital Serial ATA hard drives are mainly used for enterprise storage environments.
Most third party controller cards and RAID adapters are recognized as a SCSI device under Device Manager. This is normal and will not affect your drive or system performance.
To verify if the Serial ATA drive is recognized by the system, Right-click on the My Computer icon, select Properties, left-click on the Hardware tab, and click on Device Manager in the window. Double-click on Disk Drives. Your new Western Digital Serial ATA drive should be listed as a "SCSI Disk Device" or "Serial ATA Disk Device." If not, make sure that all cables are securely attached and that your system BIOS has been properly configured. regards
There is no need to turn off the SATA controller if your only going to run IDE's. To set your IDE drive to function as primary master you'll need to have the IDE drive listed in the Boot order sequance.
However if you wish to turn off the onboard serial ATA SATA controller anyway open your manual to
section: 2.4 Advanced menu page 2-17 & open Onboard Devices Configuration than open SouthBridge Configuration page 2-24. Serial ATA Controller, set to [Disable]
