Question about RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100

1 Answer

Doesn't ring when I get an email anymore

- Before my blackberry 8100 used to vib+ring when i received and email but it stopped a while ago (3 weeks) - In the settings for my ring profiles, I have set all the options on vib+ring so it should be vib+ring but isn't - I have tried the classic 'take the battery out' to reset it but that doesn't work

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Thanks JackHeath, just saw your post, not sure if your solution would've worked as I figured out how to fix it before I read yours, but THANKS :)

    Here's how I fixed it:

-I realized that usually in the profiles > advanced settings there is supposed to be a Messages ( -----@gmail.com) item, but I didn't have that, so I guess when I set up my email the BB somehow had an error and didn't add it to the list so I:
    -I went to email settings
    -deleted the email account
-created the account again on the email settings
-and voila now in profiles > advanced settings, I had a Messages (------@gmail.com) item which I could configure to vib+ring

    now it works perfectly !

    :)

Have you tried selecting vib in your (applications > profiles) it over-rides any settings you may set in other applications.

Well, glad its working. Interestingly under profiles, I don't have an advanced settings and it seems like what I setup applies globally. Looks like your configuration might be different.

My blackberry won't send or receive either texts or calls. But I can still do everything else like browse the web or send bbms..

This problem could be due to the lack of GPRS service. GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service, and it's what allows your device to access data. The first thing you should do is perform a soft reset. If that doesn't work, perform a hard reset. After both resets, check your wireless antenna signal strength. The antenna should show GPRS. If you can still make phone calls and access the Web, then your GSM service is still available. Try sending yourself an email . Does it work? If it doesn't, call your BlackBerry provider. Sometimes, your service could be delayed due to a billing problem or to downtime on the network.

To send, When you select from sending an email, scroll down to MMS. To receive, your email server has to be programmed to your phone. Takes just a minute.

Try removing your Facebook app from the phone. Had the same issue and I stopped receiving emails. Once I removed the Facebook app from the phone - it rebooted and all my emails showed up.

Blackberry pearl 8100 wont let me email pics

Assuming you have an 8100 pearl I believe for some reason this phone does not do mms. either that or the following is true.

With certain wireless providers a BB data plan may be required for MMS to function. For example, T-Mobile has a $0.00 feature that can be added to a persons account to enable MMS (which is included in messaging packages) without enabling full data capabilities. I believe Alltel offers a similiar feature. Contrastingly, ATT BB's cannot send or receive MMS without the $30, minimum, BB data feature being on the account. I'm waiting for a class action suit against ATT for taking subscribers money for messaging packages, that include picture messaging, but not providing all of the services being paid for by some PDA phone users.

Vibrates and sounds for no reason

Check to see if you have enabled notifiers for coming in and out of cellular coverage, data coverage, bluetooth, etc. I disabled these notifications.

Otherwise try switching the ringing profiles and see if it continues. If it stops after switching profiles, then you know it is something in your selected ring profile.

If it continues, try resetting the device. I would recomend downloading the Blackberry Desktop software to backup your phone. After resetting the phone, see if it vibs and rings randomly (note: no not restore the backup yet).

If it still does, try to update the Blackberry OS software on the phone from the same place you downloaded the BB Desktop software or your cell provider. If it stops, then restore your backed up data. If it starts up again, then it's a setting in your old config.

These are some of the things the cellular provider would do. Hope this helps!
