The unit can not be reset without knowing the pin code used to activate the security feature.
The unit must be sent back to Garmin to have it reset.

Take the unit to the location at which you first entered the password. The unit will unlock and you can change the password to something easier to remember.

Take it back and get your money back, as it is probably stolen. The PIN cannot be broken as it is set by the original user and cannot be reset by a third party. Even Garmin will not reset it without the original receipt from a Garmin dealer.

Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."

So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.

Take the unit back to the "Security Location" you set and it will automatically unlocked. You can then change the PIN number.

The only way to unlock a PIN locked Garmin is to enter the correct PIN number or take the unit to the location at which the PIN was set. Your only other option is to return the unit to Garmin.
