D-link dir-300 router always rebooting/restarting

I just set up a d-link dir-300 router, but it keeps on restarting every few seconds after i have set it up with the setup disk.

It keeps on restarting, so I can't really go inside the router to tweak settings.

Also note that this is the 2nd router of the same model that i had the problem (i had the first one replaced since i thought i was just defective) but since it happened again with the replacement, it think it must be something with my PC or network.

PS: I'm using a wired PC to do the setup

This is the fix from d-link:
Router rebooting itself d-link dir-300 router always rebooting/restarting - print.gif You may be experiencing trouble with a feature known as UPnP(TM). This feature allows Windows XP and Me machines to remotely open necessary ports for Internet Applications. You may try disabling UPnP (on the router AS WELL AS your computers) to see if this cures your reset woes. Log into the web-based configuration, access the Tools page, then the Misc. button. Choose the disabled button next to UPnP. Click Apply. You should no longer experience the frequent resets.Try disabling in XP first to see if that fixes issue.

To manually disable UPnP/SSDP in Windows 2000/XP/Vista:

  • Go to Start Menu-->Run...
  • Type "services.msc" and click OK
  • Find the service named "Universal Plug and Play Device Host" service
  • Click the Stop button to stop the service
  • Under Startup type, select Disabled from the pull-down menu and click OK
  • Find the service named "SSDP Discovery Service" and double-click
  • Click the Stop button to stop the service
  • Under Startup type, select Disabled from the pull-down menu and click OK

Had the same "frequent reboot, no reason" problem after 2 years after I bought it.
What helped a little was a factory reset (button on the back of the router), so I could at least access the web-interface without constantly being thrown out again.
The fix was to upgrade to the latest firmware (from 2.20EU to 2.33EUb01) in my case. Now the thing works like a charm again.

Open your web browser and type in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1 by default)

The default user id is: admin and the password is left blank. Once you get into the router go to the wireless setup or tab.

Below is a pdf manual of your router.

I want to configure my router through web,but i ca not connect at 192.168.0.1 web address..

The default IP for the DIR-300 is 192.168.0.1. First, make sure you're entering "http://192.168.0.1" in your browser's address bar. In some browsers, if you try entering just the numbers, it won't work.

If you can't access the setup page at all, that address may have been changed. If this is the case, or you can't log in because you don't remember the username and password, you should reset the router which will restore the factory defaults.Press the recessed rear-panel reset button and hold it in for 10 seconds. Release it and the router will restart. The defualt IP (192.168.0.1) and username and password (both admin) will be restored.

Dir-300 dlink router asking to reset to factory after installatio

there's an easy way to reset your router back to its factory setting... inspect the physical appearance of your router... there should be s small hole.... inside that small hole is a reset button

How to reset? ..... while the router is on...Using a small pointing object, much better if you use a paper clip..... insert the paper clip to the hole... press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds...

That's it your router will restart itself and the settings is back to its factory settings...

Hope that help you..
Much appreciated if you rate this help... thanks

Hi i have tried many times to get my ntl modem to work with a new dir-300...it all goes well til the save settings screen comes up then it says ethernet cable not conected or unable to detect modem..etc...

After you click 'SAVE', the router will restart itself.
While it is restarting, it briefly disables its Ethernet ports,
and your computer will report "not connected".

Wait 60 seconds, while the router finishes its restart,
and those Ethernet ports will be re-enabled,
and the pop-up balloon on your computer will close itself.

Hi I cant configure my router D-link DIR-300

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist u in this concern..Please dont use the setup cd or setup wizard. you can access the setup page of the router by typing at the url:192.168.0.1 then it will ask for the user name and password, by default the username is admin and the password, leave it blank.. here are the things u need to check before u setup u router.. .. if you are using a cable modem from ur cable company provider- u need to do a mac clone on the router u have to clone the mac address of ur computer. normaly the mac of ur computer is the one register to your cable company and on the setup page of the router just selct on the internet setup, dhcp after clonning the mac address of your computer. u need to connect ur computer directly to the router and then after doing the process connect the router to the modem. if u are using a username and password, u have to use the pppoe settings on the router, if ur isp set a static ip , set it up to the router, to check the ip setting of your isp.. connect the computer directly to the modem and check if u have internet.. then click on start, run and type cmd,it will give u a dos prompt and from there type ipconfig/all and it will show u the ip address, subnetmask, default gateway, dns server.. I hope this will solve ur concern..
