Dishwasher does not "pause" (hault) when I open the door
My dishwash (Asko 1776) does not temporarily shut-off (i.e. pause) when I open the door. It keeps running as if the door was still closed.
Obviously this is annoying since I can't add a dish or whatever just after the cycle starts (without getting sprayed!). Otherwise the cycles, the door, the latching, and everything else works fine.
So, I assume some catch or other trip mechanism is not being engaged or stuck or something (or maybe a water shut-off valve(?)).
Any tips on where the solution may lie and whether this might be something I can easily fix myself?

The thing that immediately comes to mind is a faulty door switch or latch. The door switch can be replaced and you might be ok. But the latch would be more tricky to check. Sometimes if dishwasher is not level or if the door springs are misalinged the door tends to slip and release the latch due to pressure. It works when you open and shut. But not sure about the night time cycle. That sounds a bit creepy if it starts again by itself. Why not put a tape around the door and then start. That will help eliminate the obvious ones. The other thing that exends dishwasher cycle time is the lack of adequate water temperature. Could be heater or thermostat or both.

Hello and welcome to fixya.
Based on your description and trusting it is indeed an Asko 1776 I'd suspect you have a door switch "accuator" sticking ( control pin as identified by Asko. pin part #80 575 42, switch part # 80 554 73 ).
This has been a random occurance with Asko dishwasher's since they went to this design around 1994 or so. If the dishwasher doesn't stop when you open the door as you stated, here's a possible remedy you can try on your own.
Make sure the unit is off first. **Turn the breaker off at your home service panel before attempting any service suggested here on 'fixya"...safety first"
This procedure I'm going to suggest can be done easiest and more accurately by removing the door panel & control panel for better access as well as to visually inspect other component. It is quite involved though so I recommend calling in an authorized Asko tech.
It can also be done without removing the panels by identifying the small round "pin" in the the door latch channel ( where the latch goes into the door when closed ) and with the aid of a small screwdriver, tooth-pick, paper clip or hair-pin etc.
Add some vasiline or grease to the top of the pin working it in via pushing the pin up & down...I recommend removing the panels though.
To do this...
Open the door and along the both sides and the top you'll see "T20" torx head screws, there are also two in the middle of the inside door panel near the bottom.
Remove just the screws for the door skin/panel first, three on each side and the two in the middle as I mentioned.
This next part can be tricky and you must also be careful as the edges of these panels are sharp ( auto-mechanics protective gloves are good for this ).
Once you've removed the screws from the panel, it should create a small gap at the bottom of the door where the inner and outer panels meet. with a free hand reach in and push the plastic condensation vent away from the slot in the bottom of the door and then push up on the middle door panel attachment ( the piece with two screws removed ) up as you pull the panel away from the door.
Now the panel should come off.
Now you need to remove the control panel/user interface panel. This should be relatively easy after what you've just managed to do.
Remove the remaining "T20" torx head screws for the control panel and it should come off with little effort. Once off you can see the micro-switch and the small "pin" I was referring to earlier much easier. Apply some grease or silicone lube to the shaft of the pin/accuator and work it in really thoroughly.
Re-attach just the control panel part of the door and you can test it before putting it back together entirely.

The drain time is programmable. If your manual doesn't show how to do it, you can possibly go to retrevo.com and find a similar one. I happen to have a model 1776 and used the model 1755 manual which is identical.
The only way is to pull out the dishwasher ,unhook the latch and then unscrew the door panel.your dishwasher is installed with 2 screws to the underside of your countertop. its tricky but youll have to remove them adjust to leveling legs down this will give you more room to get some head bit in ther to remove the screws if its out then slide the d/w foward ,remove the strike plate door will open then you can get your dishes out first
you may need to reset the inlet time on the board do you have the instuction book, turn the power on then press the fifth button five times within 15 sec then press third button normal wash this should fix your problem
you cant ajust the temp its thermostat control,if you want it to dry at end of cycle use rinse aid and open the door at end of cycle to let the steam out.you only have a 55 or 65 wash button on right side next to timer knob.
open up the underside of the dishwasher and check the 2 terminals that connect to the heater element. Sometimes they burn off and it is a quick repair to just put a new terminal on the end. Also make sure the water going into the dishwasher is hot, as that can cause this problem too. Hope this helps
