Re: Where do you find the P/N # on the Dell 8100 Video...
Dell 8100 is a tower and you can replace it with any video card and get better performance with a replacement.
PN typically means Part Number so that is probably correct. Also, if you call Dell support, if you give them the pc serial number, they should be able to tell you the part number of the video card. If it is out of warranty, just explain to them you just need the part number
I have done this before and gotten the info I needed.

That is just a video driver problem, go to support.dell.com and download the latest driver for your video card and install - should fix this problem for you.
if you are unsure of what drivers to download, Dell has an auto-scan for drivers - that can help!
This means the video driver was not install and it is usinging the generic video driver. You need to install the correct video driver.
You can download the video and device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. You may need to try installing windows xp. I had a gateway that had a brand new hard drive and wouldn't take 98, but installed xp flawlessly. Look at the computer and see if it says designed for Windows XP
There could be any number of reasons for this to happen. However, the most likey reason - assuming that it runs for a bit, and then shuts down - is that the heatsink/fan on the CPU is not working, or not installed properly. Once the CPU heats up to a certain point, it will shut down to prevent damage. Perhaps the CPU fan as gone bad, or is completely clogged with dust.
