Question about HP LASERJET P1006 Printer
Our hp p1006 laser jet printer will not load and feed the paper. It keeps saying out of paper even though there is paper in it.
I know this is not perfect but...
paper runs out during printing... so
1)open the front cover
2)close the front cover
If i helped you please rate me

Mine does the same thing. The solution I have used on several occasions is to load it as full of paper as possible without forcing it under the guides. Lift the lid to reset the jam function, then when it begins to try to print, push the top one or two sheets of paper into the printer. If it will grab them and print then it will be ok for the whole stack of paper. Adding more paper before it gets too low also seems to help.

I just purchased the HP P1006 today. I encountered the same problem when I tried to print a 14 page document from my laptop (VISTA) with a wireless network connection to my desktop (Windows XP) computer which in turn has a physical wire USB connection to the P1006 printer. The printer ran out of paper at page 13 and the printer status was "out of paper". I could not cancel the document or the print queue (all docmunents) from either the laptop or the desktop. I finally powered off the printer, rebooted the laptop, rebooted desktop and then powered up the P1006 printer. The printer status changed to "ready" and I tried to print pages 13 and 14 from the laptop. Page 14 printed. I then tried to print page 13 only and it also printed fine. Clearly there are s/w problems or compatibility between the HP, XP and/or VISTA s/w products. I have had no problems with the use of my other printers (HP Laser Jet 4L and Epson C86) in this hardware/network configuration.

Have had my HP LaserJet P1006 for almost 3 years and just purchased my second for my home office (looks identical to this one but all black with a different number) about two months ago because this one is such a workhorse. Slower than most others but for the price? When I run out of paper, I have to fill it back up (obviously) and then I just delete all projects; usually won't let me do the last one, then shut everything down. And it fires right back up; again for the price? I make sure it doesn't run out of paper.
a few days ago, though; it had plenty of paper and it stopped printing with "Out of Paper" code on my PC's control panel. I did all the normal stuff and then some. Disconnected the power supply, disconnected from the computer, let it sit overnight and connected everything back and still nothing. Disconnected everything, took out the cartridge and flipped it around my desk cleaning it with a slightly moist paper towel everywhere I could reach (maybe it just needed some love), hooked it back up, turned it on and no...... it didn't work; but it did immediately start printing after I took Guest's advice from 2 year ago on stopping the printing spool and then starting it again.....hope this helps.

I just had the same problem. I went through HP's troubleshooting website and followed all the instructions. Nothing worked. Even installing a new print driver didn't work. You could hear the printer start up as if it were attempting to print, then nothing. I removed the toner cartridge, then the roller (instructions are on this web page).
I cleaned and reinstalled the roller and can now print. Hope this helps.

I think the HP engineers are doing a lousy job with this model. I don't have problems with other horizontal load printers.
