Try the power supply. Look on the one in your TV for the part number ; mine is PH3501705441. I ordered one from partstore.com and it was less than $60 shipped. Hope this helps, mine works fine now........and I have a 50P8342 chassis PTV 916

I just replaced the lamp in my Hitachi 50vf820 tv and it comes on for a second then cuts out and blinks red temp light.

Make sure all the fans are working correctly. If the problem persists then it might be the ballast, the power supply or a bad temp sensor.

Phillips model 50p8341 titanium-finished 50-inch Red tint to picture

Your Red CRT may be on its way out. Try turning down the G2 screen control on the red CRT just a little. That should help for now. A new red tube wil be a reality in the future.

Rear projection

Considering that in both cases, the set will turn on but not stay on, indicates either a condition of overheating due to a failed fan or it could be a component going into thermal runaway in the power supply itself that is causing the fault.

This is not a safe area to probe around in since there are capacitors that may contain a charge for a fairly long time.

If the fan cannot be heard, this is probably a cheap repair, otherwise, get an estimate first.
