Question about Peerless Industries Peerless& Single Handle Tub & Shower Faucet
Have shower that switches from overhead to hand held. Has worked perfectly for over 1 yr. Lately the water is much too hot and can't adjust. The other shower, faucets, etc are not having this problem. Is there some sort of routine maintenance?
Shower valves that have anti-scald features are renowned for this problem. Usually it is caused by not being used regularly. It can be repaired usually without replacing the valve, but you will have to dissemble it, clean, and use some plumbers grease to reassemble it. It should work fine after this. If it still does not work you will need to replace the cartridge.

From your question it sounds like the valve is around a year old. That means it has a pressure balancing cartridge that prevents scalding when there is a drop in cold water pressure. It seems that that stem is either plugged OR partially built up with water scale. I'm guessing Stem/cartridge is corroded.
Do you have a properly working water softener??
