Well to tell you something really frankly HP denies all the blame for the printer not workinking with vista they still say after one and a half years of vista they still say they dont have the right drivers for the printers which would work with windows vista
but what you can do it dont use the windows xp drivers use the drivers for windows 2000 coz the base of windows vista and 2000 are the same

Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Printers and add a printer. Select it as a network printer, and stop it searching (unless it finds it of course - which sounds unlikely!) Then click on "The printer that I want isn't listed"
Choose to add a printer using the IP or hostname, and click next.
Type in the IP address of the printer. This can be found by printing out the network configuration page from the printer. The port will be filled in for you. Click next.
The printer should now be added.

Can you ping the printer? Go to the dos prompt and type PING followed by the IP address

    e.g.
     ping 192.168.1.103

    Ok - good.
What is the IP address and subnet of the printer?
What is the IP address and subnet of the PC?

Are you using DHCP on the router, or static IP addressing?

Can you configure a static IP address on the printer of 192.168.1.4 please and leave the subnet the same.

Cant connect (or see) my LaserJet 5000 on Windows XP

In XP go to START > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK CONNECTIONS > LOCAL AREA CONNECTION
you should see a menu showing your network card and a window that says stuff like Client for Microsoft Windows. Below that window is an INSTALL button. Click on that and double click PROTOCOL. Select IPX/SPX NetBios and hit OK. You'll probably need the WindowsXP CD to finish installing the protocol.

The LJ5000 is a very old printer and if I remember correctly, it uses the IPX/SPX Netbios language to communicate through a network. Netbios is not installed by default in XP.

HP 4550 will not print graphics

This printer will work with Vista. I use the driver that Vista provides with the standard HP internal network card and it works fine. Try putting your network card back in and undoing the USB adapter changes. Then just go in and add it back with the "Add Printer" wizard.

My compliments on the 4550, though. It's a great printer. A bit slow compared to what's out there new, but a workhorse that will last nearly forever.

How to install hp laserjet p1505n network printer in windows 98

I can not find a win 98 driver for your printer on the HP website. DO yu have the instalation disk that was writen for win 98? If not try installing the printer through  the control panel. Either printers/fax or through install new hardware. The first being the preference. Some of the win OSs have printr drivers already installed.
If this does not work out, then the printer has no drivr available for that version of windows and you ewither have to upgrade to Xp or use a different printer which has a driver for win 98.
