I do not know this model, but I am pretty sure it will not have its own preamp. Built-in preamps are a relatively recent phenomenon.

Why does connecting Sony PSLX2 deck to AUX input on an HD51 Technics amp yield hardly any sound?

There could be an output-input mismatch. As an experiment, try connecting your deck to some other audio input on your Technics amp.

Turntable with built-in preamp won't play on phono channel on technics sadx950, but fine on CD channel. Is phono channel dead?

A turntable with a built-in preamp should not be connected to the phono input, because the preamp of the receiver or ampifier will be overdriven. The task of a preamp is to amplify the very low level of magnetic cartriges to the high level needed to work a line input and does some equalizing work to the signal. You can check if your turntable has a switch to disable the built in preamp (mostly they are low-end quality), otherwise connect the turntable to a high level input like "Tape", "AUX", "TUNER", "MONITOR", or "CD".

Hi my new yamaha v373 amp needs a preamp to run a turntable so was going to use my previous onkyo txsv424 just wondering the best way to connect these two?

The turntable output cables go into the input of the magnetic cartridge preamp. The output ones go into an a tape in or aux on the Onkyo. I'm assuming that it doesn't have a input that says deck on it. Apart from getting some good quality interconnects between the devices it's a very simple thing to do.

Why is the volume not loud?

Have you connected it to an amp with a dedicated "phono" or "record deck" socket? If your amplifier does not have one of these you will need to buy a Magnetic Cartridge Preamp and connect that between the deck and amp.

Can I connect a turntable with earth cable to an Onkyo CR515

yes you can but you will need a phono preamp such as the one found here.
http://www.turntableneedles.com/Phono-Pre-Amps_c_4.html
Hook the output of the preamp to Line 1 on the back of the CR515 and for simplest ground wire hookup, choose a preamp with a thumbscrew for the ground (earth) cable coming from your turntable.

I have a turntable connected to my technics hifi system but the volume is very low the hifi system is the sc-dv 290 help woud be apricaited

I imagine it is also tinny. Is your unnamed TT self-preampified?

It always helps to know some details about BOTH parts of the scenario when they don't work together. I'm sure the TT's manual would identify how to use it.

http://audio.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/technics/scdv290.html

"PHONO" is the only designated connection on an audio device that is literal and exclusive. Nothing but PHONO will work right on it and old-school turntables would require it to preamplify and frequency-correct the tiny current produced by a Phono cartridge. Look up RIAA equalization.

If your unit doesn't have a PHONO connection AND your TT doesn't have a self-contained preamp you will have to get a Phono Preamp to connect between the TT and any Line Level input, like Aux.

Yup, get a PHONO preamp.

How to connect a turntable to Onkyo txsr 500

Just like most contemporary AV Receivers, there is no built-in Phono preamp in this unit so if your TT doesn't have one internally, you'll need to get an aftermarket Phono Preamp somewhere to PREamplify and frequency-balance the minute Phono Cartridge output to a useable Line Level you can send to any available Line Level input on the Receiver (CD, Aux, whatever) .

Connect Onkyo CP-1020F Turntable to Theater System?

Yes. It needs to have Line Level (slightly amplified or pre-amp'd) before your home theatre system can 'hear' it.
