My laptop wifi disconnect frequently ?

You may have a weak signal between your laptop and internet router.

Move closer to it, try and reduce the number of walls the signal has to travel through.

Also a wired connected is more reliable. Use an ethernet cable.

Take care!

I'm a senior citizen. I will be traveling in my old motorhome. I want to have access to my computer with printer at all times. Do I simply buy a laptop with printer that has WIFI? Do I have to pay a...

If you want to have Internet access while you are travelling, then I suggest you get a laptop with a 3G USB wireless adapter (this uses the existing mobile phone network) with an Internet Service Provider that can give you the coverage in the areas you want to travel.
I suggest you get a printer that connects to the laptop using an USB cable.
I also suggest you get a power inverter to convert 12volts to mains voltage so you can use your laptop away from mains supply.
or
You can a 12volts power converter to the voltage requirements of your laptop instead of a power inverter.

I have just bought a laptop running Windows CE 6.0. It connects to the Internet through WiFi ok, ( i tried it at McDonalds ) but when I try to connect using my broadband Internet connection I have at home...

You MUST disable the Wifi for it to use the Ethernet OK. Then maybe even be best to run the connect to internet wizard. and tell it which adapter to use... As one generally never uses both at same time, it is best to enable and disable as required.

Card slot? and wireless internet.

Hi Jenny,

Most laptops would have a slot on the left side for PCMCIA, a standard for small, credit card-sized devices. Often actually, there would be two (2) of them, one on top of the other with a plastic dummy card inserted. These cards could be an add-on modem, NIC/LAN, WiFin even a USB hub or anything else that is PC compatible.

As to whether USB is better than PCMCIA, to my knowledge, USB has a better data transfer speed and to my experience, USB has better radio signals for WiFi. So I guess, USB wins hands down.

Re wireless Internet for interstate travel - honestly no idea, I am across the globe where you are. But as a rule of thumb, if you are getting a subscription with an ISP, then it should be one that provides WiFi Internet in as many states/areas that you intend to travel. Additionally, their coverage (footprint) should be the biggest/widest possible. However, to my understanding, there are a lot of hotspots in most cities.states that do provide free open access through their system.

Incidentally, there are ISPs that provide Internet connectivity using cellphone technology (3G) and presumably, there would be Internet wherever there is a mobile phone signal.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
