The instructions read
Begin with all of the segments pushed up
Push down the segments for the required "on"? time, each segment represents 1 hour
Rotate the dial clockwise until the "Time Now" is aligned with the pointer
Plug into outlet; plug appliance into timer

It looks similar to a timer i have for my fish tank. On the dial i have there are little black nodes and if you push them down for the time you want the timer to be on eg, a light to be on between say 8am and 5pm, then push down the dials from the 8 to the 17, using the twenty four hour clock. Once plugged in to a socket that is switched on all the time the dial will make sure that the plug put into the timer will only come on between the hours you stipulate. This is how my own plug works and so i hope this will help you. ElleLainey x

Every time I have a power failure, the timer stops working and I have to reset all the programs. I thought there is a battery built in to protect the programs during power failure. Why it is not working in...

Timer is not identified.
Copy following link to help identify timer

Most modern digital timers have programming back-up that lasts indefinitely in memory until timer is reset.
However current time is sometimes lost with low battery or power outage.
In some timers there is rechargeable battery that protects all settings. This battery is non-replaceable, and can last a few years or more-less.
Since the market is changing rapidly, who knows what remarkable innovation will lessen quality, causing shorter lifespan of product.
Most timers have limited 1 year warranty against defects in workmanship.

WOODS TIMER - Woods 17321 Dusk-to-Dawn 3 plug yard stake timer

Copy following link to identify timer and download possible manual:

These household-type timers have 1 year limited warranty. Sometimes they last for a few months, or stop after 1 year, and occasionally they last longer 3-4 years.

Buy another yard stake, or plug-in timer:
Example in-wall timer: Woods 49650-59204 at my house.

Another handy thing is the Woods 32555 remote control. Let's you turn on outdoor lights from inside the car, or inside the home.

Each item above is sold at Amazon, or local home center or hardware, or box store Sears-Target-etc

The "F" LED remains on and I'm unable to get it to change states by depressing the settings button. This has happened on two of the units that are both less than 6 months old. Any ideas?

Copy following link to identify timer, and find comparable product that might last longer.

Check output voltage at outlet using multimeter. Should be minimum 80% rated value or 110Volt outlet = 88 volts
Check outlet with circuit analyzer for correct polarity and grounding.
All timers come with 1 year limited warranty, in this case it will be through seller because first alert does not show timers on their website.
Don't buy First Alert products.
They are generally cheaply made promotional grade timers.
I recommend Intermatic HB61RC or Woods 49103 or Intermatic HB65R because their products are good, and warranty policy is direct from company.

Unable to Program Utilitec 0192773 Timer

Let's figure it out together. I have one of these timers for testing, and can hook it up if needed. Add a comment as needed.
PLEASE read following material, so we are both saying the same thing.

There are two different options for programming.
7-day programming, and dawn-dusk programming.
You choose one or the other
This might be the point of confusion.

Copy following link for larger print instructions.

DST is daylight savings time, and you can choose to have automatic DST adjustment twice per calendar year, or choose not to have DST

Be sure to RESET timer before programming. This will clear any programming glitches.
Make sure that each ON time has an OFF time.
So Program 1 ON is set for day(s), hour, minute
The Program 1 OFF is set for same day(s), hour, minute.
Make sure there are no conflicts between day(s).
If selected time is 12:00, then use 11:59 to avoid am-pm conflicts.

How do i set it

i think i figured it out. i have the same one. i bought it last year for my christmas tree lights and it worked great. but this year i can't get it right. finally i think i did. u see, since it is hard to read the dial it makes it hard to set the current time and on/off times. i will give u my example: to have the timer turn on at 4pm and off at 11pm: set the timer at 8pm ( the 8 left of the PM mark). set green marker at 4pm (left of the PM mark) set red at 11pm ( left of PM mark and just before the 12am mark. basically i think the dial is backwards so what looks like pm times is not and vice versa. Crossing my fingers, Good Luck!!
