Question about Linksys Wireless-G WAP54G 802.11g/b Wireless Access Point

1 Answer

We have a Linksys WAP54G Wireless Access Point which has been fine until the company has changed to Lenovo laptops, non of which will connect although the older HP laptops connect ok. We eventually changed to Belkin which has no problems.I would like to understand why this has happened. When we try to connect it shows 'aquiring network address" but then nothing happens. There is no problem with getting a DCHP address as there are plenty. All the settings are the same on both devices. The Linksys is a V3 and on firmware 3.05, the Lenovo laptops are T61's and under 1 year old.Any SuggestionsThanksAndy

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the suggestions but after browsing through the Linksys forums I have found a multitude of people with the same problems with that model of Linksys router & Lenovo laptops, apparently its to do with certain Lenovo's Intel wireless cards.

I would have liked to have looked into this further but we needed to find a fast fix as our MD was stressing so we ended up buying a Belkin which works perfectly for all our wireless laptops.

Again thanks for everyone who posted suggestions.

    Andy

This isn't a solution - but maybe it has something to do with the IP V4 and IPV6 protocols?

Hi,
most probably this is happening because your connection is bot established correctly>>from the screen shot above it is clear that the security key is not matching(wep or wpa)>>please try to recollect the security key or password for wireless.if you are not sure, just post it --i'll give simple and detailed step to get that.
thank you.

Try reseting the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of therouter with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to beconfigured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in allthe laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wirelesssettings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wirelessrouter.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and putit in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

My access point works fine for about an hour then the act indicator goes off and it becomes undiscoverable for my laptop. what is the solution?

Ensure that your laptop WIFI is correctly setup and specifically turn on the option:
'connect even if the network is not broadcasting its name SSID'.

If it does not help, try the followings in order:
  • Reset the router (make sure that you backup your current router setup or know how to reload i / reconfigure).
  • Change Wifi Channel on your router as the current channel frequency might be clashing with other wireless devices (handsfree?).
Good luck!

I can not access the linksys access point, the 192.168.1.245 does not link.

the default address is 192.168.1.1. if you still can't access you can factory default by pressing and holding the reset button on the back for about 10 seconds. after it restarts the ip address will be 192.168.1.1 leave the username blank and the password will be admin.

First you must be sure you are connected to the router (by wireless or cable). Than you have to open a browser and access 192.168.1.245. You will be asked for an username and passowrd. Username case leave it blank and the password is admin
To set a password for wireless you need to go to wireless configuration. For more detailed info look in the users guide at chapter 3. You can find user guide here : http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WAP54G

Linksys WAP54g v3.1.Can't connect more than 1 computer wirelessly

That is normal for you not to be able to get online at the same time, you are using a Wireless access point, you access point does not have a dhcp server to share the internet on both laptops. What you should have put in there is a wireless router, for Linksys the model of a wireless router will be WRT54G or any model as long as it's a router.

Installing a Linksys Access Point to a Verizon Actiontek wireless router.

The IP Address of WAP54G is 192.168.1.245

Connect a computer to the Access point.

Assign a static IP Address to the computer, like : 192.168.1.10 , the subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0

Open the setup page of the Access point, by typing 192.168.1.245 in Internet Explorer / Firefox. Configure the wireless settings, Change the IP Address to the range that of the Actiontek router.

Save settings. To know about wireless security, click here.

Linksys WAP54G connection to WRT54G

Ok, so why do you need an access point upstairs and a router downstairs connected wirelessly? If you can't connect with a laptop or a pc, why whould you think you could connect the access point? The purpose of this configuration would have to be with the access point to the router via ethernet. What's the point? If the problem is range, check out http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php to enhance the capabilities of the WRT54G... and maybe building a parabolic antenna for it as well. Plans to do so abound at Lifehacker.com.
