Recently I bought an old pioneer system without speakers. The amplifier is an 'a-z370'. I believe it is a 4 channel 300w amplifier but not knowing anything about systems or speakers this means nothing to me (sorry for my ignorance!!). As I have purchased an old system I am only looking to purchase either quality used speakers or inexpensive new that will do justice to my system.
I have been told the watts is less important than the ohms? I am unsure what the ohms is for my system??

You can use any wattage speakers as long as they are not less than the watts from your amp. However you can still use lower wattage speakers as long as you don't turn up the volume full or two loud! Otherwise your damage the speaker.
HOWEVER you must get the ohms matched up right. You must never connect any speaker with a low Ohm to a high rated amp. Or you will blow the output stage transistors or IC.
Most Amps are 8 ohms, so you could connect an 8 or 16 etc, but not a 4 ohm.

Being a 500W amplifier, you need to connect speakers with 300W each. The correct method to connect speakers is red terminal of speaker should be connected to red terminal of amplifier & black to black. The left side to left side speaker & right to right speaker. There may be main & remote terminals. Main speakers are the speakers at local place of the amplifier & remote for remotely placed speakers. I do have Technics SU-V85A which is somewhat similar. Enjoy! A nice piece to listen.
4 speaker wires, black, green, red, white ;speaker left +speaker right +speaker left -speaker right. First see what pair of speaker wires go to left the channel of the amplifier. One of each speaker must be connected to each amplifier´s channel, no matter of colors of the wires. Two wires for each speaker to each channel of the amplifier (rear panel + and -). Then you will have 4 wires connected to 2 stereo channels of your amplifier. Two wires for each speaker.
At this point, I would be looking at the main power suply for the final output stage. You may be attempting to drive the output with the driver section rather than the final amp stage. The center pin of the output transistors should have B+/B- on them. Measure that to ground and report the value here.
either your DSP output stage already damaged or maybe your speakers. have it both chekced for short. or worst both of them. DSP A1000 can drive as low a 4ohms on main channels but how is the power handling of your speakers? are you sure it has not exceeded the capacity of the speakers? or maybe you have over driven the speakers and they are still ok but your amp gut busted due to over drive. If the DSP amp is busted then it is due for replacement of power transistors and drivers. you can not disable the protection circuit. at least the design. it can be disabled by a tech person with a lot of modifications but i wont go for that or it can cause more damage to your equipments. i am from yamaha before and i have made conversions of protection circuits but it is too risky.
your output transistor, IC( integrated circuit), tubes. around the output side of the amplifier.
try to switch on the amplifier without the speakers. also the wire connecting the speakers, if the fuse blow without the speakers its inside your ampilfier. if not its your speaker. hope I helped you with this. don't hesitate to reply. ^.^
Symptom: After use the sound cuts out together with a mechanical click (relay sound). Turning off and waiting a bit before powering on, tends to 'fix' it, but the sound cuts out in the same way after a while.
The click led me to the little relay board inside. Inspection of the solder joints showed that a few were 'broken' ("cold soldered"). This was right below a high-wattage resistor, possibly the cause of the stress causing these random disconnects.
for audio system always you have left and right channels. get the output (left&right) from tuner---go to equalizer input left&right.---from equalizer output go to amplifier inputs.and certainly from amplifier output to speaker.
