Re: belkin wireless security
Plug a laptop straight into the router with a cable. then open an internet browser and type in 192.168.0.1 type in the username and password. the default will be admin for username and password for password. then close the browser and unplug the cable. it might detect wireless internet after a few seconds. if it doesn't, it is possible that you have a PC set up as the internet gateway for the laptops or something, so when you introduce encryption the laptops can't get access. in which case you should go to your wireless icon on the laptop and click that and open the connection list. double click on the wap secured connection and try to connect. it should ask for a username and password, which you have secured the wireless encryption with. enter that and it should connect to the gateway. dunno if this helps, good luck chris firstname.lastname@example.org

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to connect to the Belkin Router Wirelessly and it is asking you for a Security Code, all you need to do is to access the router settings page and look for the Network Key or Passphrase.
To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.2.1, the Default password is blank
Click on Security under Wireless and look for the Security Key or Network Key (Passphrase)
U need to make your wireless network a security enabled network & don't share the wireless network key to a unreliable person.
Steps to create a security enabled wireless network:-
1> login to router setup page;bydefault ip address of belkin router is 192.168.0.1/192.168.2.1
2> Open a internet browser on a hardwired desktop/laptop connected to your router, clear the address bar completely and then type 192.168.0.1 or, 192.168.2.1<it depends on your model no of your router>
3> Go to Wireless Tab,changed the wireless network name(SSID)
4> Change the wireless network key as well;it will be good if you use WEP key if you old XP computer, otherwise use WPA-TKIP if you vista/win7 computers
5> Lastly on your computers, you have to seach wireless network name & give the wireless network key(for the very first time)
In case of any clarity feel free to contact belkin tech support
Are you trying to connect to the wireless network on a WINDOWS VISTA / 7 computer? Sometimes on the windows vista computer , it will ask you for the PIN number when you try to connect to the wireless network. On the same window at the bottom you will find the option " I want to connect to the network or I want to enter the key manually". If you click on that option , it will ask you for the security key. If you don't know the security key, then you will need to check the settings of the router. You will need to open the router set up page where you can check all the wireless settings of teh router. If you want, you can also find the PIN on the wireless settings page of the router.
If you are trying to connect any other wireless device to the network and it is asking you for the PIN then you will need to open the set up page of the router and under wireless settings you will find PIN. Click here for step by step instructions
To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router. To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: - 1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable. 2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address. 3. Enter the router setup, login and password 4. Change the admin password 5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast. 6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA). 7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router. 8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings. 9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router. 10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
hi.. it has been seen that due to some reason the wep key doesnot work... u can try changing the key type to WPA instead of WEP... go to the router page and change the security type to WPA instead of WEP.. 1 more thing in vista you can use the windows utility only...how come is it possible that you are using the card utility as well..i suggest you to disable the card utility and just use the windows default utility.. vedhick.....let me know if u need steps to change the security type to WPA..
VISTA and wireless don't go well together. First, I would disable your firewall, you can turn it on later when everything works and play with the settings, second use the hex value instead of the password key when logging into the wireless device, third try it both with windows managing the connection and with the vendor software. Some wireless prefer one or the other depending on their compatibility with the Vista virus.
This is possibly caused by your firewall or the wireless security (wpa/wep) on the router if you have set it up.
First of all, if you can connect to the internet via a cabled connection the problem is going to be with the way you've set the router up.
If you've setup wireless security on the router, have you also set it up for your wireless adaptor?.
I suggest you try to connect to the internet via cable to start with, if this works try to connect wirelessly with your firewall off.
If all else fails start from the beginning again.
alright... it does depend on the model of belkin itself but here goes... assuming you have windows since most people with mac are QUITE familiar with PCs
Open an Internet Explorer window on your computer and type in http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar. This will take you to the Belkin router's web based configuration page. You will get a login page. Leave the password blank. Click Submit .On the left side of the page, click Channel and SSID below Wireless . .
set it to have a wireless password... (again the exacts depend on your model) by doing this a computer must have that password you made to access the connection..
now depending on you computers operating system(ie: windows 95,98,200,ME,NT,XP vista or a mac) will depend on how you put this "password" into your computer...
windows- START-CONTROL PANEL-(network and internet options)NETWORK CONNECTIONS-VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS and when you try to reconnect to your internet connection you will be prompted for the password...
IF however your wireless adapters have their own wireless clients then you will have to contact their tech support instead of that last paragraph
heres the number to belkin tech support in case your router will not allow you into the interface
