The tv is NOT in standby mode... it does not have a standby mode !!! But what is happening is.. your tv is getting lamp errors. this can be caused by voltage drops and spikes while the tv is on... and a factory reset can correct this. OR it can be one of two problems.. Bad Power supply or defective lcd panel.

Hi,

I had this problem yesterday, when I got home to check it for myself, I realised that there was a problem with one of the input signals (in my case this was a PC cable). The PC I used was on, but had locked up when restarting, therefore the PC was on, but not sending a valid signal to the TV. Everytime I turned on, the red light just blinked.

I realised the TV wasn't broken when I turned it on and managed to change the input source (while the light was blinking) back to HDMI (Sky), then the TV was fine.

When I noticed the problem with the PC, I forced a shutdown and then restarted it properly, and then everything was fine.

To summarise, if you have a red blinking light, its not neccessarily a fault with the TV, but it might be just confused about which signal it should be taking when it goes on.

  1. Try changing the source as soon as you turn it on and when the light is blinking.
  2. Disconnect your input cables and try them 1 at a time, (in various orders)
  3. Turn everything completely and utterly off (In my example above, the PC is a laptop so had its own power supply)
  4. If your TV is still blinking when nothing is connected to it (not even HDMI or SCART) then you probably have a problem.

I'm not a TV expert, but I do like my gadgets and tech stuff ...... and that was how I fixed the problem... I hope this helps anyone who reads it.

Good luck !

Mitch

There is a Firmware upgrade go to philips.com and enter in model # of your t.v. download software to a memory stick and insert into usb port on side of t.v. turn on t.v. and the menu will pop up showing you that it is upgrading. Very simple I had the same problem. I just fixed mine. I am actually registering my t.v. now so I can make sure I stay on top of these upgrades.

Red light is just flashing on on/ off switch and nothing else will happen

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.
If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

SONY KDF-E55A20 5 red blinking lights on power button

Hi,
Symptom shows Lamp is weak in result and causing restart of TV again and again. Your TV requires new lamp as per following part number...
A1085447A* LAMP BLOCK ASSY XL-2200U
It is available in Sony Accessories Store for $200 and replacement procedure is written in instruction manual of TV.

Always buy Sony original lamp for TV and avoid aftermarket / cheap lamp for TV safety.

Blinking Red Light - Nothing Works

Call Sony, give them serial number (rear of unit) provide descripton of problem and failure to operate after powering off and they will issue a case number and give you an address in Lubock TX to send the unit. Send the unit, with the case number showing on the shipping label, include a proof of purchase, description of problem, return address. Also if you like me, have CD's in the changer make sure you note that during the telephone call with Sony and again on the description of problem. Very fast phone call.
