I ahve tried all of these. What next?

  • meganwedd Dec 10, 2008

I have tried turning it off and on. I have tried firmly placing the face plate on and have checked all the buttons. This is a brand new machine.

  • meganwedd Dec 10, 2008

I have tried all the buttons. This is a HP Officejet 4300 all in one series. I just brought it today.

  • meganwedd Dec 10, 2008

Before attaching the faceplate, check for anything that may have pressed the button.

You may be having a malfunction. If a wrench icon appears on the touch screen, press it and take note of the code listed. Check to make sure a button is not stuck in the pressed position.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls postback the exact model number.

In the meantime, have you tried following the instructions? Stuck buttons could sometimes be unstuck by snapping or flicking at them with one's fingernails. Additionally, most have safety switches attach to the doors, cover, lids that could and very well trigger the error message.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Most scanners have some sort of lock on the rear or underneath that is used when machine is in transit or storage. Might you have a look for such. If this lock is still in place, the machine would not function correctly. Alternately, some utilizes tapes to lock certain components in place. Pls ensure that these are removed and that none are obstructing any contact terminals, pins.

Again, may we have pls the model number.

Screen says "mnl"

MNL indicates the fax is set for manual reception, you have to press "start" to receive the fax. There should be a button on the control panel for reception mode, press the button until it says auto or fax or fax only. If you do not have the manual, you can go to brother-usa.com and look for downloads.

Cannot change date & time

On the control panel, lift up the tab that says something like "69-72". Under that, you'll a blue "data Registration" label on the third (I think) button down at the left edge of the control panel.
Press that button and you will enter the data registration mode for the machine. Now, note the labels on the rest of the keys/buttons. Use the set and right arrow keys to advance to the time/date settings. Use the number buttons to enter the date and time. Use the arrow keys if you have to. When you're finished, press the "Data Registration" button again, twice I thikn to skip over the other options for "Data Registration" or set them, too.
