Question about Toshiba Satellite M65-S809 Notebook
Sounds like a system board failure to me. The white line alone could just have been a damaged screen causing pixilation - a common fault that develops into multiple lines. But the symptoms you descibe of the power light coming on but nothing else happening point to the system board. Before anything else try taking ALL the power off the machine ie remove battery and power lead. Press the ON button for a second or two (sounds stupid I know, but do it) if that is still no go then it is most likely a system board failure
It's really not worth the effort of replacing the system board unless you can get a good used one.
Just buy another laptop and get your data transferred. Go for a used Dell D610. Excellent machines, about 4 years old now but I sell loads and NEVER had a problem. Good build quality, unlike most of todays laptops
