Digilife DDV-7300 Camcorder - Battery will not hold charge

I bought a DDV Digilife Camcorder from a bay area-based company at Oracle Open World in San Fran last year. I don't recall the name of the supplier.

Almost immediately I had problems with the battery holding a charge. It will now only take about 5 pix before cutting out. Also the off-button won't work when the battery is charged so it discharges all its power very quickly.

As I don't have the name of the supplier to return it, I'd be grateful for advice on how I can get it repaired/fixed.

Many thanks. Sara

Thank you. Really appreciate the suggestions. You're right about the battery - it is a flat type one, charged thru a charger. I'll try your suggestion immediately. Thanks again.

Not sure of which model exactly your using, but you may check out the web address below.

It appears to be a Chines manfactured Brand, unfortunately alot of these units appear to suffer from a substandard charging system that leads towards a problem with the battery.

The good news is that many mobile phone batteries are often suitable replacements for these to swap out with. I'm picking its probably around a 4.8v or similar flat type battery and is charged either via computer USB connection or through independant charger. A local camera shop won't be a good bet, the shipping to china may out weigh the cost of replacement. I would suggest hunting for a custom battery manufacturer that can supply a replacement battery and hopefully a charger to suit! :o)

As for the on off switch, also a common flaw in the designs, any local video camera repair shop should be able to assist with that part of it. Hope this helps.

I had my digilife ddv-1100 for approximately three years and It no longer charges. If I pulg the usb in the light comes on but as soon as I disconnect it it goes right back off. What could be the problem?...

Almost certainly the battery. They don't last forever.

MY DigiLife DDV 7000 uses an NP-60 battery. I found some of these on Amazon by searching for "np-60", and paid about $1.50 each. You can also sometimes find batteries by searching on the Camera's model number.

My camera does not charge the battery from the USB lead. I have to use a separate charger.

Card locked

When this problem occur you need to set the memory card unlock or not protected. Remove the memory card from camera and you can see a small button in the memory card, so you need to slide that to set the memory card unlock or not protected.

Will not power on

It should power on using internal memory. Your problem is normally due to weak/dead batteries. Make sure that you have fresh batteries, or freshly charged batteries, installed. If changing the batteries out does not eliminate the problem, the camera is a likely candidate for the repair shop.
