The method I mentioned should work for any video input. So if you're only using HDMI then you should still be able to use the RCA cables to connect the red and white audio connections to a set of speakers.

You won't be able to send the audio from your monitor to the speakers since the audio jack on the monitor is built to receive the signal, not send it.

What kind of connection does your external speaker system use? If it uses RCA then you can go straight from the PS3 to the speakers, if it wants the 1/8 inch (head phone jack) then you can get an adapter from any electronic store that will convert RCA to 1/8 inch.

When you have the HDMI plugged into the monitor, and the RCA (or other audio type, such as optical) then on the PS3 go to the display settings and make sure it is set to HDMI (if you are able to see anything on the monitor then it should already be set to HDMI).

For sound settings it should currently be set to HDMI, change it to use composite/RCA. That will set the PS3 to send the video through the HDMI cable to your monitor and the audio through the RCA cables to your external speakers.

What method are you using to connect to the monitor?

If you are using the HDMI -> DVI adapter it does not support sound. HDMI does, but DVI does not.

If that's the way you are set up then all you need to do is use the HDMI -> DVI adapter for your video and use the regular RCA connections for audio.

You can set the video and audio settings in the PS3 with the "Display Settings" and "Sounds Settings"

That way you just use the red and white RCA ends to connect to a speaker system, the yellow won't be in use at all.

Hi , Im trying to make my external volume controler work om my Aer 4520. Its a litlle ring that puts volume up and donwn

Ebv65,

External speakers for your laptop are very easy to hook up. They should plug right in to the external speaker outlet on the laptop. Your acer 4520 has a Headphone/speaker/line-out jack with S/PDIF support. First you need to check all your volume levels within the control panel (located in the sounds and devices folder) to make sure they are up. This solve your problem. Thanks for visiting Fixya.com. Have a great day.

We don't get any sound from the monitor, Why?

This monitor doesn't have any internal speakers. You either need to buy some external speakers, or plug headphones into your computer.

Dude, the hdmi is just for the video signal, you'll have to use a separate audio cable to get sound from the integrated speakers.

How can I connect external 5.1 speakers to my Acer 5920 Laptop

welll.... you can hook multiple speakers up in parallel if you wish... but it will still be stereo... just through more speakers that's all.

You will need an external sound card if you want real DD5.1 sound. An excellent choice for a laptop is the Audigy 2 ZS video editor. It's an all-in-one device.. audio in/outs, video in/outs, 5.1 sound, 4 port usb hub, firewire connect and a few more things. The neat part is that it hooks up with one simple usb cable.

is there a external jack for a speaker or head phones? If there is try your head phones or ext speaker. If you look inside your case you will see that the speaker wires go from the sound board to the jack to the speakers. Some times the jack gets something in it or stuck open and it doesnt let the sound go to the speakers
