Yes.  Open the Printers and Faxes dialog from Control Panel. Right click your printer and hit Properties. There should be an option (possibly under Advanced) to change to GrayScale or Black and White. Print a doc, then I'd just double check before you print a 2nd doc that it kept the setting. If it did, go ahead and print the rest. If it didn't, try setting it again and recheck.

YOU SHOULD USE HP 21 BLACK INK CARTRIDGE FOR BLACK PRINTING.IF YOU USE 22 COLOUR CARTRIDGE YOU WILL GET ONLY GREAY PRINTING ONLY.I AM RIGHT?IF YOU USE COLOUR CARTRIDGES MAY YOU WILL GET MONEY LOSE. BECOS IT WILL FINISH EARLY.BLACK INK COST IS LESSTHAN COLOUR INK CARTRIDGES. SO YOU SHOULD BUY BLACK CARTRIDGE FOR REAL BLACK PRINTING.

My hp deskjet f4180 printeris acting like it is printing, but the pages are coming out blank. The cartriges are new, they worked for the first few pages, then it started printing lighter, and lighter...

Hello. It sounds like the cartridges are running empty, strange that new cartridges would run empty so quickly. Depending on the cartridge number the 21 and 22 are very low capacity. you do have the option of using a 57 colour also which has approx double the capacity, but unfortunately the black is only a 190 page cartridge (according to them, real world testing has shown much less)
If it has been refilled try this link below to get it flowing again. http://www.fixya.com/support/r3986425-unblock_print_heads
If the Cartridges are HP Brand jump on the phone to HP to obtain a replacement cartridge.
F.Y.I Most compatible cartridges (21 and 22) have a capacity of approx 20ml of ink, compared to HP that hold approx 6ml. I would recommended SkyWell Brand of compatibles as they have great colour and a large capactiy.
I hope this helps Regards GM

My HP PRINTER,DESKJET F4180 is printing faintly even though there is a lot of ink

I presume that you have tried with different cartridges to rule out the possibility of cartridge fault and you are not printing in draft mode.

Clean the electrical contacts on the cartirdges and carriage.

The steel rod, on which the carriage moves, is set too far away from the paper. Open the printer's top cover and loosen the lock screw of the brackets holding the rod by its ends. Rotate these brackets a few degrees to lower the print carriage towards the paper to obtain desired printing. The screws to tightened.

I have a HP Deskjet F4180 AIO. It is printing

If you just replaced the ink cartridges, make sure you've removed the plastic tabs that cover where the ink shoots out. If they are old cartridges, make sure that the nozles haven't dried up. Remove the cartridges and dab a cloth (one you don't mind staining) where the ink shoots out, if all the colours show up, it's clear. If you notice very little colour, or none at all, try dampening the cloth and wiping down the cartridges to promote inkflow through the nozles. Hope this helps.

My printer is not printing text in neither colour nor grayscale.

Go to Word>>
In new Documents

Type following with Big font size, their respective colour

BLACK
RED
BLUE
YELLOW

Now you will come to know which colour is not printing, in case any problem in nozzel or print head.
Secondly, go to Notepad and try printing somthing from that.

Please try this and provide your experience
