Re: Poor print quality of pdf documents on Epson LX-300
PDFs are designed to print using Postscript language. The problem will occur with any non-Postscript printer. You can get better results on Windows printers by clicking on the "Advanced' button in the Print dialogue window. Then check 'Print as Image'.

If you touched the electrical contacts on the cartridge the high voltage used could be taking a shorter path to ground. Try cleaning the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint free cloth and some 99% isopropyl alcohol then wipe dry.
The PDF file you try to print is probably a low-resolution pdf. If you make de pdf yourself, you can check if you can make a printable pdf.
Please print this pdf and see if the quality still is poor:
If the quality is OK, than your pdf has the wrong settings.
It maybe on it's way out ,they don't last forever but try epsoms solutions https://www.epson.co.uk/Printers-and-All-In-Ones/Inkjet/Epson-Stylus-DX4000-printer/Drivers-Support?target=article&extn=.html&articleId=1358
You may have to come to a happy medium on this printer, or, perhaps there is a dip-switch setting (on the printer) needing to be changed.
You could also try one of the other Epson printer drivers. Perhaps you can find one which will get the desired results
hotoPC 650 captures images in 24-bit color (16.7 million colors). Your pictures will not display maximum image quality if your monitor or computer's video controller doesn't support this color depth. Additionally, if your pictures are taken in 1154 x 864 mode, try increasing your video resolution above 640 x 480. You may need to upgrade your system to achieve the best possible image quality. If your pictures look better on the screen than when you print them out, you may need to upgrade your printer. An EPSON Stylus ink jet printer, for example, provides excellent image quality. If you used drag and drop to insert your pictures, they may appear grainy. Try importing them into your documents instead.
