I have fully charged the unit and it will freeze up each time I try to use it it will go to the main screen and that is as far as it will go. I reset it and it will sometimes go to the next screen but then it freezes up again.I bought it for a gift and need it to be in working condition when I give it, can you help or do I need to return it?
Sounds like the sensitivity is whacked...can you hear the type sound. Mine does this sometimes and I solve it by using 2 thumbs and constantly push the settings icon, on each side. It will bring up the x for sensitivity...using the stylus tap gently and then twice to set. Hope this is what you were looking for.
Had a similiar problem. Goto the Setting Menu and choose your correct U.S. time zone along with the time. Then go into the Navigation Menu and choose Setting\Localization to select your Time Zone and Daylight Savings option.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

You can update it with garmin webupdater or If its still under warranty send to garmin to be refurbished.I have the same unit and it does freeze up momentarily while the proccessor catches up.Only for a second though. Its a refubished unit as well.
Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the manufacturer?s website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings.
Since the operating system and navigation software are preloaded into the internal flash memory of the GPS, the freezing may either be software or hardware failure. First, press the "Reset" button or push the stylus into the "Reset" hole, to see if the navigation software can load successfully. If the program still does not load, then the software may be corrupted. Also, if the internal memory fails to read or write and the software cannot load properly, it may be caused by hardware failure. In this case you must return the unit for exchange or repair to the retail location from which you purchased it, or contact Nextar for further assistance.
Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
I just opened up a Nextar 14-BCT GPS unit and found the inner side of the ribbon cable is cracked. This unit has the exact same freeze on load screen as you do, so try looking inside, you may need the LCD ribbon cable or both LCD and LCD ribbon cable for your unit to function normally again.
Don't disconnect it just because the screen freezes. This can happen if the battery is depleted too far, because the load is too great for charging AND running the device simultaneously. Leave it connected for 20 minutes or so, to see if the screen returns to normal appearance. If not, then you will be needing a new battery. Be sure to charge the new one BEFORE it is fully depleted. They are not NiCd batteries, so there is no need to fear ?memory effect". With NiMh and Lithium batteries, those days are gone, thank God!
I found this on Nextar support site. These units **** lots of problems being reported by many users.
