My ipod was working no rpoblem last night. I left it on docking station overnight and this morning it is not working. It is like there is no power ? It wont sync either totally dead! Any ideas?

Hi,
  • If an iPod appears not to turn on, check the hold switch on the device. If this switch is activated while the device is off, it will not power on again until the hold switch is turned off.
If that is determined not to be the problem, the battery's charge should be checked. When the battery is no longer holding a charge, the device will not power on, but will show a battery icon on the screen for a few seconds. If you see this icon while trying to boot up the iPod, just connect it to the USB cable and allow the battery to charge, which can sometimes take up to 30 minutes before the iPod becomes operable again.
If no battery icon appears when trying to turn on the device, try resetting the iPod. Once reset, the device should turn on, but if it does not, the battery may need to be drained first (by leaving the iPod disconnected from power for up to 24 hours), and the reset

How to save my battery of iPod

Some iPod users, the device is everywhere you go - in the car, work, go to the gym and everywhere in between. An iPod can play for several hours, but eventually must be recharged. Over time, the iPod's rechargeable battery wears out and needs replacing. There are several ways that the iPod's battery life to expand, if it is in use now and again all day, every day, or just for an hour or two. Caring for the battery can improve performance.

1. Control of the controls. Avoid a lot of fast forward, rewind and click "Next" and "Previous". The iPod to work harder, the faster the battery drains. Building playlists for working out, relaxing or traveling in the car to the temptation to jump in numbers to resist.

2. Off is not necessary. Apple recommends that iPod users to switch off the device backlight to conserve battery life. To accomplish this, go to Settings on the main screen and then "Backlight" and "Off". If the tie is not used, it can also be disabled. Again, choose "Settings" and then "Equalizer" and "Off". If it is in use, turn off the setting to "Flat". IPod models with Wi-Fi network using a spare battery. Use the "Settings" and select "General", "Network" and "Wi-Fi" to disable this feature.

3. Keep your iPod at room temperature between 32 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The ideal temperature is 72 degrees Fahrenheit or iPod at room temperature. If the device is placed under 32 degrees, warm it up before him. Let the iPod in direct sunlight or inside a car for long periods.

4. Press "Pause" or turn off the iPod off when not in use. Leaving the iPod unattended, but the execution is a quick way to lose the battery. Place the unit in pause or sleep on the play / pause button for two seconds. Once the iPod is in sleep mode, slide the switch at the top to "hold" position, to avoid calling.

5. Load if necessary. The iPod should be charged when empty, regardless of when it will be used next. No cost of a case or cover. Connect the device to a docking station or directly to a computer to charge and, if requested, all software updates. These upgrades include improvements to conserve battery power.
My ipod will not turn on

Find out what to do if your iPod won't turn on.

Several things could prevent iPod from turning on. Check each cause in this order to find out what's wrong.
Products Affected

iPod
Resolution
Make sure the Hold switch is off

1. Check to see if the Hold switch is on. It's located on the top or the bottom of iPod. When it's in the on position, you'll see an orange patch.
2. To turn the hold switch off, slide it until you no longer see the orange patch.
3. Press any button to turn on iPod.

Make sure the battery is charged

iPod won't turn on if the battery is empty. Instead, a low battery screen appears for about 3 seconds when you try to turn it on.

iPod battery empty icon

To charge your iPod, connect your iPod to your computer's built-in 6-pin FireWire or high-powered USB port or connect it to the Apple iPod Power Adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet. Note: iPod models without a Click Wheel cannot be charged via USB. iPod shuffle requires a high-power USB port to charge. iPod nano and iPod (5th generation) can charge via USB or FireWire, but they require USB to sync with iTunes. If you're not sure what iPod model you have, click here.

If you are connecting via USB and the battery is completely discharged, there may be up to a 30-minute delay before iPod powers up. Click here for more information.
Reset iPod

If iPod still does not turn on or appears to be "frozen" you may need to reset it. When you reset iPod all your songs and files are saved. Some customized settings may be lost.
Let the iPod battery drain

In rare cases, iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. If iPod didn't turn on after you reset it, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or computer and reset it.

Update iPod's software

If iPod turns on after you reset it, use the latest version of iTunes to update iPod.

Additional Information

If you have tried the solutions above and iPod still won't turn on, check the following:

* Make sure iPod is the only device in your FireWire or USB chain. Disconnect everything but the mouse, keyboard, and your iPod, then see if it will turn on.
* Make sure you are using the FireWire or USB cable that came with your iPod, and that the cable is in good condition.
* Try connecting iPod to the built-in port of a different computer to see if that works. Note: If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to a power source and that the lid or display is open. If the lid is closed the computer may go into either standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPod will not charge properly.

If you still can't turn iPod on after performing these steps, it may need to be repaired. You can arrange for repair at the iPod Service Website.

iPod may not power on, may be stuck on the battery logo, or may have stopped responding while playing music (in which case the Click Wheel doesn't respond).
Products Affected

iPod classic (120GB), iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod classic 160GB (Late 2009), iPod (5th generation), iPod (5th generation Late 2006)
Resolution

If you experience any of the above issues, try the following steps:

1. Toggle the Hold switch. To do this, slide the switch to Hold (an orange bar appears) and then slide it back (orange bar is hidden).
2. Reset the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center buttons for 10 seconds.
* If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect the iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If the iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
* If the Apple logo does not appear or the iPod is not seen in iTunes, connect the iPod to a power source by either plugging it into an Apple iPod USB Power Adapter or directly into a computer's USB port.
3. Let the iPod charge for at least 20 minutes. Note: If the iPod is connected to a computer, make sure the computer does not sleep, standby, or hibernate during the 20-minute charging period.
4. After the iPod has charged for at least 20 minutes and while it is still connected to the power source, toggle the Hold switch again as in step 1.
5. Try resetting the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center buttons for 10 seconds.
* If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect the iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If the iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
* If the Apple logo does not appear or the iPod is not seen in iTunes, try putting the iPod into disk mode and restoring.
6. Try putting the iPod into disk mode.
* While in disk mode, connect the iPod to iTunes and try to restore.
* If the iPod is still not recognized by iTunes, the iPod should be serviced.

How do I re charge battery with electrical plug

To charge the battery using your computer:
Connect iPod shuffle to a high-power USB port on your computer using the included iPod shuffle Dock. The computer must be turned on and not in sleep mode (some models of Macintosh can charge iPod shuffle while in sleep mode). When the battery is charging, the status light on iPod shuffle is orange. When the battery is fully charged, the status light turns green.
If you don't see the status light, iPod shuffle might not be connected to a high-power USB port. Try another USB port on your computer.

To charge the battery using an iPod USB Power Adapter If you do not have then you have to buy the same from Apple Store) 1 Connect the AC plug adapter to the power adapter (they might already be connected). 2 Plug the USB connector of the iPod shuffle Dock into the power adapter. 3 Plug the power adapter into a working electrical outlet. 4 Put iPod shuffle in the dock. You can disconnect and use iPod shuffle before it is fully charged.

Have a new ipod nano 6th gen 16 GB...and it seems like the battery goes empty really fast. It also doesn't seem like you can really shut it off like my old ipod nano.

first you should let it charge when not in use, apple makes there batteries cheaply and the more it hold a charge the longer the battery will last, secondly you can't shut off your ipod nano, sorry, lots of people complained about this, when you press the button it goes into standby mode and still draws power it will turn off after 36 hours of non use. so i recommend that when your ipod is not in use it is plugged in charging. good luck

How do i charge my ipod

To charge the battery, choose one of the options below:
  • Connect the device to your computer (not your keyboard) using the included cable to charge the battery and sync. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If the device is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
  • Connect iPhone or iPod touch to a power outlet using the included cable and a USB power adapter to charge the battery.
An icon in the upper-right corner of the screen shows battery charging status. If you charge the battery while syncing or using iPhone or iPod touch, it might take longer to charge.
Note: If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged into power and that the lid or display is open. If the lid is closed, the computer may go into standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPhone or iPod touch may not charge.
Important: If iPhone or iPod touch is very low on power, it may display one of the following images indicating that the device needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it. If the device is extremely low on power, the display may be blank for up to two minutes before one of the low-battery images appears. If you don't see the white charging or plug icons, your iPhone or iPod touch may be connected with a FireWire cable. Disconnect the FireWire cable and connect the iPhone or iPod touch to a USB cable or dock.
that should be everything you need to know about charging an iPod Touch. If you require further assistance please feel free to followup with additional comments. If this solution solved the problem please feel free to rate it. Thanks and have a great day-Midwest-Tek

Screen gone dark

It is natural to ipod the screen will be dark if has no power unless the LCD of your iPod is defected even it has a power its remain dark that’s the symptom of defected LCD screen. I hope your problem is a power failure only. Make sue your iPod is fully charged and then toggle the hold switch on and off. Then reset your iPod nano; Toggle the Hold switch on and off,(Slide it to Hold then it off again). Then press and Hold the Menu and Center (select0 buttons simultaneously until the apple logo appears ,about 6 to 10 seconds .You may need to repeat this step . If you having difficulty resetting your iPod set it on a flat surface .Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center. Then If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try your iPod nano with a different USB port on your computer, not a USB port on your keyboard or hub. iPod will stop charging if the computer, or portable computer, it's connected to enters standby, hibernation, or sleep mode. To charge your iPod, connect it directly to a computer's USB port and make sure standby, hibernation, or sleep mode is turned off. If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to a power source and that the lid or display is open. If the lid is closed the computer may go into either standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPod will not charge properly. If you have an Apple iPod USB power adapter you'll be able to charge your iPod without leaving your computer powered on. If all procedure above for power to on is not working then its better to replaced the battery with anew one so its works normal again.

Hope it may help you;
Regards;
