S-video not working any more

Hello, thanks in advance for your help.

I'm using a HP Compaq nw8000 series laptop. Recently (just last week) I bought an s-video and RCA cable to connect to my television so i can watch movies. This was working fine until sunday when i was watching a movie and decided to change it. At that point, i plugged in an external hard drive to find more movies and all of sudden it wouldn't work any more. Since then i've spent hours trying to figure out why, looking at online forums, hp support, looking through all my display settings and even updating drivers.

When I press the quick launch presentation button, i receive the following message:

"Warning
An external display must be connected before presentation mode can be performed. Please connect an external display and click on the retry button. If you don't wish to perform presentation mode, click on Cancel Button."

This message occurs when my s-video cable is connected from my laptop to 'input video 1', 'input video 2' or 'input video 3' and the appropriate AV channel is selected.

Please note, when this setup was working in the first instance I was using the Function+F4 keys to convert to presentation mode which would then connect the output to the TV. When I do this now, my computer screen goes black, and then comes back to normal screen.

Check device manager and ensure that there is more than one display adapter listed, and no devices with red X on them. Please right click on both video adapters, and left click uninstall - don't worry. Reboot, and windows will try to redetect hardware to hopefully reinstall the missing video adapter. Another good option would be to do a system restore to the day before the problem startd. Last option would be to uninstall all video card software/drivers on the system and reboot. windows will install generic drivers, and then you can reinstall the proper software for the video card.

hope this helps!

Touchpad cursor is freezing up

Sounds like your low on memory, very low in other words it's dipping onto the hard drive to help with the mouse. upgrade the memory or use a less intensive antivirus, like nod32 or a free one like Microsoft security essentials.

Hi,

The second battery would replace the cd/dvd drive in that slot. Obviously you would lose the ability to play cds/dvds..The drive is easy to remove -just push on the button to the right and then pull out the drive. Hope this helps..Michael

Hello Leo,

If you are sure ram is verygood, then verify the video card. this is the last fault of the PC the video card.. try to remove and clean it and then refix it again..i guess video card is lessen. if this not work try new video card but if is built in to the board you need to contact the vendor or the nearest HP service center.
