I need a Windows 7 64 bit driver for my LG W3000H-BN monitor. The highest resolution I can get is 1280 xx 800 however I should be able to go up to 2560 x 1600.

You need to update your graphics drivers. If you are using an graphics card then you will need the newest graphics card driver updates or if you use onboard graphics then give me the model number and manufacturer of your motherboard and I can have a look for them for you.

I have a red dot on a Coby TF-TV2001. What can I do to repair this?

If you mean you have a pixel that is stuck on and is always red, there's nothing you can do. The only cure is to replace the display. LCD displays sometimes will have a pixel (sometimes several pixels) that doesn't work properly. The manufacturers know this, and as long the display falls within their specifications for what's acceptable, they don't see anything wrong. These specs include the total number of bad pixels, the number of bad pixels that can be clustered together, and where they can be on the display. If you have just one or only a few bad spots, they won't do anything for you. If other problems develop, such as a whole row or column goes bad or a section of the display fails, then you can see about having them fix it if the warranty is still in effect.

What disavantage about LCD?

The most notable disadvantage to LCD screens is their fixed or native resolution. An LCD screen can only display the number of pixels in its matrix and no more or less. It can display a lower resolution in one of two ways. Using only a fraction of the total pixels on the display or through extrapolation. Extrapolation is a method whereby the monitor blends multiple pixels together to simulate a single smaller pixel. This can often lead to a blurry or fuzzy image particularly with text when running the screen below is native resolution.
Video was problematic with early LCD monitors because of lower response times. This has been overcome by many improvements, but there are some that still have low response times. Purchasers should be aware of this when purchasing a monitor. However, the improvements are often work arounds that can actually lead to another problem of reduced color clarity. Unfortunately, the industry is very poor about properly listing the specifications for monitors to help buyers understand and compare monitors.

  • Blurry images Outside Native Resolution
  • Motion Blur on Fast Moving images
  • Some Models Have Reduced Color Clarity
Conclusions At this point and time, most consumers will likely be purchasing LCD monitors over CRTs. There is almost no difference in the cost to consumers thanks to production improvements in LCDs and the reduction in the production of CRTs. Typically CRTs will only be seen sold with the least expensive of desktop computer systems or by those with special imaging needs such as graphics and medical professionals.

THERE is two small bright patches in the screen

the two small bright patches are actually bad pixels.there is nothing to worry about as upto 5-6 bad pixels are fine.these bad pixels do not spread generally so no reason to worry.in case the number of bad pixels on the screen increase to more than 5-6 then you can get your unit replaced by the manufacturer if in warranty.

My dell monitor has three large green shimering boxes across the bottom of the screen that I can't get to go away. Powered on and off, unplugged, plugged....

Shimmering boxes and/or LCD screen has spots = this is due to Missing /broken Pixels.
- These are pixels that are permanently off and is a natural defect that occurs in LCD technology.
Solution (1) = Do a reset on All Settings. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/E173FP/En/controls.htm
Solution (2) = If Solution(1) does not work, you may need to replace your monitor.

3 pixel wide stripe on lcd

Hi Casey,

If the problem is getting worse, than either the pixels are dying (so to speak) or you might have a problem with the monitor's screen.

Unfortunately, if either of the above are true, then the only way to fix it would be to replace the screen, which can be quite expensive. If you agree that this is the problem then you'd be better off getting a new monitor instead of spending money to get it repaired.

Good Luck.

Dead pixel

Please read the WHOLE of this guide before starting. Software Method
  1. Try running pixel fixing software. Stuck pixels can often be re-energized by rapidly turning them on and off. If this fails, complete the following steps.

Pressure Method
  1. Turn off your computer's monitor.
  2. Get yourself a damp washcloth, so that you don't scratch your screen.
  3. Take a household pen, pencil, screwdriver, or some other sort of instrument with a focused, but relatively dull, point. A very good tool would be a PDA stylus.
  4. Fold the washcloth to make sure you don't accidentally puncture it and scratch the screen.
  5. Apply pressure through the folded washcloth with the instrument to exactly where the stuck pixel is. Try not to put pressure anywhere else, as this may make more stuck pixels.
  6. While applying pressure, turn on your computer and screen.
  7. Remove pressure and the stuck pixel should be gone. This works as the liquid in the liquid crystal has not spread into each little pixel. This liquid is used with the backlight on your monitor, allowing different amounts of light through, which creates the different colors.

Tapping Method
  1. Turn on the computer and LCD screen.
  2. Display a black image, which will show the stuck pixel very clearly against the background. (It is very important that you are showing a black image and not just a blank signal, as you need the backlighting of the LCD to be illuminating the back of the panel).
  3. Find a pen with a rounded end. A Sharpie marker with the cap on should be fine for this.
  4. Use the rounded end of the pen to gently tap where the stuck pixel is - not too hard to start with, just enough to see a quick white glow under the point of contact. If you didn't see a white glow, then you didn't tap hard enough, so use just slightly more pressure this time.
  5. Start tapping gently. Increase the pressure on the taps gradually for 5-10 taps until the pixel rights itself.
  6. Display a white image (an empty text document is good for this) to verify that you haven't accidentally caused more damage than you fixed.

Tips
  • If the pressure and tapping don't work directly on the stuck pixel, start moving outward around the stuck pixel. If you see the pixel flicker while doing this then you know where you can focus the pressure and tapping techniques rather than directly on the pixel.
  • Many people report success with this technique but these instructions won't work in every case. It may take a few attempts to make sure you are pressing exactly on the stuck pixel.
  • These instructions will fix "stuck" pixels, not "dead" ones. Dead pixels appear black while stuck pixels can be one constant color like red, blue or green.
  • An alternative, but similar technique involves gently massaging the stuck pixel with a warm damp (not wet) soft cloth.
  • Alternative technique to tapping: Using a rounded pencil eraser, push with moderate pressure into screen at stuck pixel.
  • If these instructions don't work, you can hopefully get the monitor replaced through your manufacturer. If your monitor falls under the specifications of replacement, get in contact with the manufacturer to set up replacement plans.

Warnings
  • Do not attempt to open the monitor as it will void the warranty and the manufacturer will not replace it.
  • Make sure you don't get any electrical equipment wet or it may break.
  • Some people claim that touching the screen can cause more pixels to become stuck, although this has not been proven.
  • Be prepared to suffer a complete loss; you may crack the glass when tapping or putting pressure on an LCD assembly.
