Video Card not recognized on PCV-RS410

Hello. I have decided to upgrade my sony vaio desktop pcv-rs410, and I'm encountering a problem with the video card. I bought an NVIDIA geforce 8400 gs 512 mb ddr2, which doesn't come with the most clear instructions.

Here's the problem - I can't get the computer to use the new video card slot for the monitor. It will use the old one, but not the new one. Drivers are installed, etc...

The instructions say to use the bios to disable the onboard graphics and switch graphics to the video card "using the 'primary display adapter' or something similar". I can find nothing similar in the SONY bios, but that could be just because I'm an idiot.

I'm confident the drivers are all installed, I have correct version of DirectX, I can see the GeForce video card as one of two installed video cards through "device manager" in XP -- just can't figure out how to make the PC use the geforce card instead of the crappy integrated video (intel 4 blahblah).

Any help will be immensely appreciated.

    Hi Terry -

Yes, the video card is showing up fine in the device manager. The problem is that the integrated onboard intel video device manager is also there, and it seems to still have control.

I've thought about just disabling the integrated video through device manager, but then if it doesn't work, I'm up the creek.

Hi, have you check the status of the video card in the window device manager.
1. Right clicking My Computer icon on your desktop
2. Select Manage option from menu
3. Select Device Manager
Please verify if there is any yellow color exclamation appears on the left side of your new video card adaptor. If so you need to install a driver. I am assuming your pc is running window xp and video card adaptor is window xp compatible.
Hope this help.

Vaio pcv-rs410 won't boot from usb

Have you changed the boot order in your bios? Many USB Keys are actually formatted as USB HDD or USB DVD. If you do have the USB device as 1st boot option ensure that the format is FAT32 and the software installed correctly (grub loader or windows boot image). Many sites such as Major Geeks will offer Optical Disc->USB boot conversion tools which make this a much easier process.

Sony VAIO PCV-RS410 memory maxed @ 1G. Can I install different motherboard with more memory?

You could, but to be honest you're probably going to spend more money and time than it's worth.

If you're having speed issues, one possible solution is to clear space off your hard drive and run defragmentation. Your hard drive should never be over 80% of its capacity; otherwise the system can't run at peak efficiency.

If the PC still isn't running to your liking, then I'd recommend shopping for a new one.
