Just like in the old days when we play a VHS, the scenes would jump around until we press up or down on the tracking till its still or if u had auto tracking. I have red white and yellow jacks on both ends and plugged it from dvd to tv. Thats all i think ty

If you are connected to a cable box, first disconnect that and then watch another source. If the band goes away, the issue is with the cable box or the input line has a bad ground and time to notify the cable company. If it is still there, you might have a bad capacitor on the power supply board inside the TV. I feel however the cable will be the issue...Please take a few minutes to rate my answer...Thanks

You have just found out why the plasma sets are fading from the market.
Both of you may have a power supply problem. The PS in plasma TVs is more complex than in LCD sets and therefore more likely to fail.
Since Akai is so poor on product support, they may not even have parts since that set was made by Samsung who also doesn't want to hear anything about them (their site doesn't recognize the Akai model number), you may be out of luck.
In researching Akai, I find large number of folks who will not buy any Akai anythings again.
This kind of performance is unusual for a Japanese company.
It may be your serviceer does not know where to look for the parts. Akai is made by many different manufacturers and the parts for each manufacturer come from different distributors. I beleive your model is supported by Vance Baldwin
Repaired one of these with the same symptoms about two weeks ago. My guess is that the SMPS has failed. In laymen's terms the power supply, Samsung p/n#Bn96-00249a and you should be able to purchase it at Vance Baldwin http://www.vancebaldwin.com/ and just sign in as a guest, select parts# and input the number above (no dashes). Be seated when you do they're a bit spendy - - about $270.00 dollars plus shipping and a $50.00 core... You get that back when you send them the old one..
After you get the back off the PS is located in the middle of the unit at the top of the screen. If you need the service manual to help just let me know. It's actually an easy plug and play repair...
