Try erase all data from the card. as soon as game is loaded press A,B,X,Y and L,R and you will be prompted to erase all data on the card.

Try also cleaning the card pins (teeth) with alcohol.

Is this a multi card or a normal game, if its a multi card for e.g R4 or Ncard you need to change the save format settings, but if its a normal game one of the teeth could be damaged or even a glitch, if thats it then you need to take the game back to where you bought it from (depending on how long you have had it between 6 to 8 months)

SOURCE: nintendo ds, can not erase data message

Where did you buy this game? Is it from a reliable source? There's been known fake DS games that don't work. And usually the case is the game shows a message "can not access saved data. please turn of power and re-insert game". This is actually my first time with a case where it can't erase the data. Try contacting the previous owner.

I'd say there's a good chance you have a defective unit. Your best bet would probably be to exchange it for a new one, and if possible, test it while you're at the store to make sure.

On the phantom hourglass it says... data could not be read. Please turn the power off and reinsert the game card.I did what it said.I even cleaned it.I need help.

WARNING: This will erase all saved game data!

As the game boots up, press "A,B,X,Y,L, and R" all at the same time to erase all saved game data. This resets the game to all defaults and it's like it's a brand new cartridge. Stinks you lose your save data but at least you get to play again.

My pokemon pearls data can't be read

Your game may be defected, you can take it back to the store you bought it from, tell them the problem and ask for a new game. if they dont take it back, you can contact Nintendo, tell them the problem and they will most likely take the game back and either try to fix it or give you a new game.

Memory loss

Quick, check every menu on the game. This is what happened to a friend who had Mario Kart. "Deleat data" was accadently selected when that person was trying to edit something. The data was lost. Check all menus. The wrong thing could have been selected. If you cannot find a way to deleat data, then make sure you never turned off the DS, DS light, DSi, or whatever when saving. If it was turned off when saving, then the following can happen: Nothing, Data Erase, or data destruction. Data destruction means the cartridge is ruined. That didn't happen to you, though. I am sorry, but you must start over.
