Can you explain a bit better? Sometiems it's detected, but there's no detection?

Try plugging it back in. Go to Start: Run: devmgmt.msc orStart: bar at the bottom, type devmgmt.msc ... Look at your devices, look at whether anything has a warning sign next to it.

Cannot connect to internet using usb modem with laptop IBM Thinkpad R400.

ZTE modem is detected but intermittent?

This to me falls to a hardware problem, and not a software problem, HOWEVER, let's discuss the driver issue anyway, and first.

Where are you installing the driver from? Device Manager? Pggh!

Windoze lost the address to the driver file anyway. I find Device Manager a waste of time. A hit and miss proposition at it's best.

Download from Lenovo Support AND install. Have a lot of people on here that seem to think you just download the file, and that's it.
You have to INSTALL it also.

Now to the hardware part;

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?

Under the red banner with - Guides and Manuals - in it, click on the black - Hardware maintenance manuals - heading.

Click on the blue -> { + } Click for files

Now click on the blue -> Hardware Maintenance Manual

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

The plus + icon at the top of the PDF viewer is for Increasing the view size.
Click on the minus - icon to Decrease view size.

Go to the Bookmarks menu to the left, and click on the + sign to the left of -
Removing and replacing a FRU
(Field Replaceable Unit)

Scroll down using the blue Down Arrow.

There are two mini-WiFi modules in your laptop.
1) 1090 PCI Express Mini Card for Wireless LAN/WiMAX

2) 1100 PCI Express Mini Card for Wireless WAN

Both of these modules have two antenna cables, that connect to them. The terminals on the modules, and the connectors on the cables, could have corrosion on them. Suggest clean. Make sure the connections on the modules are tight. (DO NOT overtighten!)

Could also be that one of the modules is going bad.

To work around the above issues, one of the below solutions could prove helpful:usb-device-not-recognized.jpg
  • Unsecure or Loose Connection
Unplug the presently connected USB device (if any). It is quite possible that the connection is not secure and has become loose. Re-plug the USB device tightly and firmly into the USB port. This is one of the most common reasons for an error in detecting a USB device.
  • Scan for Hardware Changes in Device Manager
Use the Device Manager to scan for new and recently installed hardware. From the Start menu, select the Run option. In the pop up box, type in Devmgmt.msc and then click Ok. From the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes. This will make Windows scan & recognize any new devices that are installed. Now, close all opened device managers and control panels. Now, follow the above step and see if your computer detects the USB device.
  • USB Hub Power Management
Disable power management of the USB hub. To disable the power management on the USB hub, follow these steps; Click Start, and then click Run. Type devmgmt.msc in the popup box, and then click Ok. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers' node, and then follow these steps for each USB Root Hub that is listed.
    1. Right-click the USB Root Hub and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Power Management tab.
    3. Click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click Ok.

Sometimes, simply unplugging the USB device and turning off the computer for twenty minutes and then restarting may solve the issue. If none of the above options have solved the problem, check the manufacturer's website for new driver information. It is possible that your drivers need to be updated. There could also be a possibility of hardware failure, which needs to be checked by a hardware expert.

Dell latitude x300 port usb not detect

refresh the USB ports:
1. Right click MY COMPUTER
2. Select PROPERTIES
3. Select HARDWARE
4. Select DEVICE MANAGER
5. Select UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS
6. Right click on each USB CONTROLLER and select Uninstall
7. Uninstall all entries
8. Reboot your computer
9. As your computer re-boots it will reinstall all USB connections it detects
THEN, when all other USB items have been configured and connected by the system, you then should try connecting your USB device.

Thanks, Joe

Need help picking an external modem for an old Dell Insprion 2500

Any computer capable of running Windows ME is capable of supporting any external modem.

In the past, for "internal" modems, there were "hardware" modems and "soft" modems.
The "soft" modems had 50% of the hardware of the "hardware" modem,
and the rest of the "brains" of the modem were embedded
in a software device-driver that gets installed into Windows.

Fortunately, most external modems are *NOT* such "soft" modems.

There do exist external modems that connect to a USB port,
and external USB wireless-devices, if you want a higher-speed connection.

USB powerloss?

As you have already stated that the port in question can run a standard optical mouse, the port seems to be working fine.

Sometimes the drivers for a USB device need to be installed for each USB port. Maybe you have installed these drivers for 3 of your 4 USB ports, but not for the one in question, result of which is the problem you face.
