So impressed with the speed I received this reply. I know the modem works (working on another computer), but may have a software problem.

    THANK YOU!

Check whether the software is installed or the internet connecting device which you have currently using may not be compatible with the lap .so check it with a usb modem.install the software disc along with the internet package and try .thank you

If your device manager indicates a good network adapter, wireless and/or Ethernet, go to the Dell website, select support, drivers and download, and enter your service tag number. It will direct you to all the drivers you need to get you computer operational again. If the device manager indicates missing network adapter drivers, you will need a flash drive, a computer that can connect to the Internet, and transfer the network adapter driver to this computer.

Internet not connecting?

May be your Ethernet Controller is not installed. To confirm this, go to "Control Panel", click "System" from there look out for "Device Manager", click it, check "Network Adapter" to confirm if your Ethernet controller is installed or not. You might also see "Others", in the "Device manager" where you will find only components of your Laptop that are not installed with a yellow exclamation mark.

If you have confirmed that your network adapter is not installed, then you wil have to install the drivers.

Please give me feedback.

Take care.

Device manager and network adapter missing

you need to reinstall the drivers for your network, such as the ethernet and the wireless drivers. try to check if you still have the dell resource cd drivers disc. you need to insert that disc and check for the network drivers install them one at a time. if you no longer have the drivers disc then you can download it from a diff computer that has an internet connection. this is the website http://support.dell.com

click on the drivers and download and click on the green icon to enter the service tag. after that it will display all the drivers. you can download just the network first and save it to a storage device. then install that to your computer and download the rest of the drivers after you connected to the internet.

Windows WiFi Fix,
Windows Zero Wireless Configuration is one of the best programs to run a WiFi in Windows XP or Vista. Most of the other software packages that come with the different adapters have been poor at best in keeping a connection through Windows. Here is the best guide to get you back up and connected.
Windows XP:
Click Start
Right click on My Computer
When a window pops up click on properties
Click on the Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Windows Vista:

Click Start Logo
Right Click Computer
Click Device Manager
Windows will ask you about opening Device Manager Click Continue
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

If you are using Windows XP, go to Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on Local Area Connection and then click Enable. (This is only applicable if the ethernet port is disabled).

Also, you may go to Device Manager (Right Click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager) and then check if the ethernet is disabled or has a question or exclamation mark.

If both dont work, your ethernet controller is broken.

Installed Vista now won't connect to ethernet .

You should be able to find the right device drivers by going to dell support page and looking up your model. It should list all drivers. Find the one for Vista and download it from there.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_8200&hidos=NAA&hidlang=en&TabIndex=

This should get you there.
