what type of cable are you using? There are sata connectors as well as ide connectors on the motherboard.

  • Justin Bellomy May 11, 2010

Your ATAPI cdrom is using an standard IDE. The P5QL-E motherboard has an IDE port on it. What about the cable does not match?

As the others have said, your MB has an 40-pin IDE connector just to the right of the SATA connectors. It is at a 90 degree angle to the SATA connectors and parallel to the RAM slots.

It is shown on Page 2-26 of the manual. (Available at http://support.asus.com/ )

Remember there is a pin missing so that the cable cannot be inserted backwards.

My first thought is that you have a defective motherboard. I've never seen so many things going wrong except when the board was a dud. It sounds like the BIOS ROM or its interface circuitry is bad. If this board is still under warranty you can probably get it replaced. Try the vendor first. If you bought your board from a company like TigerDirect or Newegg, they're pretty good about replacing defective parts. Then check the manual or Asus website to see what you need to do if the vendor won't exchange it. I have used this same board (purchased from TigerDirect) in a couple of systems, and they went together without a hitch.

Once you've got a working motherboard, it should be pretty much smooth sailing with the rest of the assembly. Good luck and thanks for using Fixya! Please post a followup to let me know when you get your system running.

BIOS and Sony CD-RW CRX300E

Your Sony CD-RW is an ATAPI CD-ROM for the purpose of your BIOS. Without you specifying the motherboard brand and model, it is hard to tell you what your issue could be.

Nearly all PC motherboards made after 1995 will allow you to boot from the CD. Enter the BIOS setup screen by pressing, during POST, <DEL> or <CTR>-S (Gateway), <F1> or <F2> and look for boot sequence. Some MB's have a boot sequence key you can press to select the boot device for that boot instance only.

If you are trying to say that you have an ATAPI CD-ROM and the Sony CD-RW, then check your master/slave/cable select jumper settings on the device. Each IDE channel can have at most one master and one slave.

Damn Asus , it was a hard session ;-)

1. Make an ISO from your original Asus CD denn insert (with isobuster or something) the Bios Firmware 1004 in the main Dir name the file M2N-MX.ROM

2.Burn a Second disc with the 0804 Bios ROM also rename the 0804 Rom to M2N-MX.ROM

3. Go to EZ FLASH with ALT + F2 and then insert the 1004 CD wait till Erasing is ready Then Turn OFF your PC :-) so you crashed the bios thats what you need to run the embeded CrashFRee Tool

4 After you turn your PC on insert the 0804 CD then it flashes the this Rom and we are Happy :-)

I can't use HDD sata on mainboard ASUS P5RD1-VM

Things need to be turned on in your bios patrohi. This is why windows didn't boot to the SATA. You need to use your manual & make sure the, Serial ATA Controller is [Enabled]
Within the Advanved menue under SouthBridge Configuration.
At the Main menue the SATA drive should be listed.
Boot settings need to change as well. At Boot Settings Configurations. Make sure your SATA drive is listed.
Boot order should list like, Floppy 1st, CDROM 2nd, SATA 3rd. The SATA will not list as a SATA but the model number of the SATA drive. Once all these settings are set save & exit. Your drive should show up for work & the windows CD should load.

Please Tell me, ASUS P4S8X-MX Problemn

First of all, try to reseat all the cables inside your computer just make sure there aren't any loose connections.

If that doesn't work you will have to reset your BIOS. (Follow the instructions in your motherboard manual.)

If even after resetting the BIOS the problem is not solved, you may have to replace your CMOS Battery.
