Hung on black screen apple logo is still light

Try holding the shift key when restarting the computer until it is all the way up. It would show safe mode. release the key. Basically it would not load 3rd party items to load. If it works find the offending program. Also go to the library and trash the " com.apple.plist ". Please include your OS version. Currently it is 10.9.3.

When I turn on My Inspiron1300 it shows the dell screen then the screen goes black I've tried rebooting and checked all cords?

This could indicate that the POST test is not completing. Do you have any beeps? This could also indicate that Windows is not able to boot. Hold down the F8 key when the Dell logo appears. If you see a screen asking for Windows boot options, select Safe Mode. If this works, you will need to revert to an earlier system restore point.

My screen stays black when i turn my computer on, its a mac laptop and everything sounds like its running fine, the screen just wont come on.

Try hooking it up to an external monitor. If does work on the monitor you know you have to replace the screen. I don't see a model of what type of mac laptop you have, but most parts are pretty easy to replace and cheap to buy on auction sites.

Sometimes my mac air will not boot up when turned on. The screen simply stays black. Eventually it does boot up. What causes this and should I take it in?

Does it always eventually boot up? If so, I don't think it's a serious problem. Your OS may need to be restored. Do you still have your original install CD? There are detailed instructions on how to do the restore online. If the problem get's worse and it doesn't turn on even after restore, you may have a logic board issue, Here is an Macbook Repair Guide that shows how to open a Macbook. If you want somebody else to do it for you go to Macbook Repair.

My Apple screen stays black!!!!!

If you hear the fan spinning and the screen stays blank chances are very good that the video chip on your logic board has failed. That was a common issue with many Apple laptops of that generation.
Before you give up on it however try resetting the power manager and reseating the RAM. Below is a link to instructions on how to reset the power manager on a powerbook.

Sounds like your machine is overheating big time. You didnt say if it boots up or not, but I wouldnt keep trying until someone can look at it. You probably need a new fan, possibly hard drive, hopefully not mother board.

Macbook Pro goes from gray apple screen to black

Try booting into single user mode by pressing Command+S while booting. You should then be at a prompt. Type in:
fsck -f
and press Return. Let it run and see if it corrects any filesystem issues, then reboot when it's done.
