Printer canon PIXMA MP170, it was error 5100

Thank you to Mr Biswaranjan Roy for your help.

I had problem with my printer canon PIXMA MP170, it was error 5100. The green light and orange light flashing 2 times flow each other. The colour ink was finished, even I couldn't scan.

I bought a colour ink cartridge and I changed it, just I could scan but still had the error 5100.

I opened the side of the printer to get access to the purge cap.

Took out the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to ink cartridge) at the corner inside the printer and washed with warm water and dried it with dry hair dresser and put it back again.

And I put tiny drop oil (not cooking oil) on the cartridge rail to make the cartridge slide easier.

Now my printer was work well and I am happy.

SOURCE: Hi How can I fix error 5100 on my my Canon

Hi You can Try 2 things.

ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your cartridges carriage that disables it from moving. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there

Next try.

It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire.
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

SOURCE: alarm = check printer 5100

Hi,
This error means that there is something obstructing the printing process. Check inside your printer through the gears that you can see under the lid. There should be something obstructing the gears such as dirt or even some paper caught underneath the rollers that you have to jiggle around to even see. Check very thoroughly..

Hope this helps

I am assuming this is a new printer install. You have to go thru the entire printer and remove ALL the shipping tapes. This one was worse than my HP all in one, which had 12 pieces.

5100 ERROR

As per the manual...

Service error 5100 is displayed

Cause: Movement of the FINE Cartridge Holder is blocked.
Action: Clear the paper jam or foreign object that is preventing the FINE Cartridge Holder from moving, cancel printing from your computer, then turn OFF the machine and turn it back ON again.
---
You might see something blocking the printer head, check inside to see if there is a paper jam, staple, or some other object blocking the print head.

Canon PIXMA MP450 "Servic Error 5100"

Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a cleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work

I had the same problem too. Brand new unit and 5100 error comes on after power up. There is nothing jaming the ink cartiage, and it only moves a little bit to the left then jams back to the right. I can't even load in new ink cartiages. It's going back to the shop today.
