Camera makes a rhythmic revving sound. There is no play back, and because there is no playback, I can't tell if it is recording. The viewfinder on the camera setting works.
In my opinion mini dv mechanism in camera is cooked and needs to be replaced.
You may contact Canon Advisory Support if you get " Remove the Cassette" warning for further support.
Good luck.

Sounds like the recording and playback heads are dirty. When was the last time you cleaned the heads? If you haven't, buy a Video cleaning kit which are cheap these days and run it through a couple of times.
See if that clears it up

Probably the ribbon that connects the screen to the body, try close and shut it a few times it gets adjusted and the sound stops.but if does not stops then needs internal reparing.

As a first step towards resolving your issue, we suggest that you
restore the camera's default settings. You can reset all of the menu
and button operation settings to default except for Date/Time, Language,
and Video System. To reset these settings, please follow these steps:
1. Please remove the AC adapter and main battery.
2. Please remove the backup battery. It is located behind the main
battery.
3. Please turn the POWER SWITCH to camera, then to PLAY/VCR.
4. Then please turn the camera off for approximately 1 minute.
5. Please use a clean pencil eraser to rub the contacts inside the
battery compartment and on the battery.
6. Put both batteries back on the camera.
7. Connect the camcorder to AC adapter.
8. Clean the tape compartment with a dry tape head cleaner.
If the error is not cleared, send the camcorder
in for service."
You might have to do it twice and put a tape to try and record before it works perfectly. It worked for me so hopefully it works for you.

Have you tried running it without a tape in? Just to see if it still makes the sound?

This most likely has to do with the motors or the head. Either way your camera will require professional service. Follow this link to locate the nearest authorized service center:

Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.

I've tried multiple tapes, and the problem still occurs.
