Question about Nikon Speedlight SB-80DX TTL Flash
I was working with it today and it was flashing intermittently during the session. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't flash but the lights would blink as if it discharged. Then, near the end of session, it mind a high pop sound and now it won't flash at all. When I gently shake it something is rattling around in there. The batts are fresh. Any suggestion?
The symptoms and sounds you describe (pop, now rattling) point to the flashtube being blown. Sorry. You can get a repair estimate, but you may find it cheaper to buy a used on on eBay or craigslist. Around $100-110 on eBay if you are patient.
