Question about Dell Inspiron 8600 Notebook

Dell 8600 Won't Power On

No lights come on- nothing. The previous night, I took out the keyboard just to clean out the fan etc. The screwdrivers weren't magnetized or anything. I took the battery out before hand too... just like I do every couple of months to clean it out.

Afterwards it powered on fine, and was left on all night. I turned it off (sleep/hibernate- I can't remember) in the morning, brought it to class. At class, it worked fine. At the end of the class, I put it into hibernation, and it won't come back on.
No lights, nothing of any sort.

The adapter works, the battery seems to be ok. The adapter's light comes on. I used it on other laptops, and it charges them. I tried using other adapters on the broken laptop, and nothing happens.
I also tried powering it on without the battery in.

I don't know if it is charging the battery or not- the battery charging light on the laptop does not come on.

However, the lights on battery itself do come on (to test the battery). Its charge is almost full, it seems.

No lights on the laptop itself come on no matter what adapter I use.

so the only lights to come on are on the battery itself and on the adapter itself. I don't know how to tell if the battery is charging or not.

The adapter does charge other laptops though.

Also, it will not come on with any adapter.
Let me try and re-phrase it.
I tried using this adapter in other computers- it works.

I tried using other adapters to charge the broken computer- no lights on the computer come on. It will not turn on.

I tried that several times before

The problem was actually with the cover strip (with the power button, CAPS light and num. lock light). It wasn't plugging back in when I snapped it back into place.

My dell vostro 2510 won't power on, when i press power button to turn on the pc , the power light turn on for about 5 sec then it turn off itself,

Try this to see if can give us some codes with it's on board diagnostics. Hold down the function button of your laptop and then the power button while still holding down the Fn/Function button on the left side of the keyboard. See if this gives you either an error message on your screen or, flashing lights above your keyboard. Pay attention, write down what lights where lit up what ones flashed, etc. This is to diagnose if the LCD isn't working. Comment back if you get either the light code or the error code on the screen. IF nothing happens try holding the Fn/Function button on the left side of keyboard and holding the F4 button, see if that makes any lights flash above your keyboard.

Dell Inspiron 8600 - overheating and shutting down

Start by cleaning the fan and heat sink. Dirt or dust build up can cause them not to work as efficiently as they should. If cleaning doesn't fix it, you might consider replacing the fan and heat sink or purchasing a cooling pad.

Inspiron 8600 or 8600C

There is no P/N for the motherboard, it is only the model say chipset type, slot type, your processor type, etc that matters. anyway i dont think you can get dell's motherboards in any computer shops. the best is to call the dell company and ask them to do it. They might need your Dell model no and serial number which will be on the backside of the laptop. ADVICE it is best to buy a new one in such problems.
