Question about Canon MultiPASS MP390 All-In-One InkJet Printer
This was working fine prior to changing the black ink cartridge on my Canon MP390 multipass scanner/printer, then it stopped printing. I have tried all the cleaning techniques and have changed the black cartridge 3 times to no avail. It prints in color fine, it just won't print from the black cartridge. HELP. Thanks, Elle
I just ran into a similar issue with my MP390. Actually both the color and black inks were not printing very well. I would get very inconsistent printing. Fixed the problem very easily and quickly as follows: On the top of each print cartridge, there is a small hole. Remove the print head (lift the gray bar at the front of the print head and lift out the print head) with the cartridges still in place. Holding the print head over a piece of paper/paper towel, blow into the holes on the top of the cartridges (either directly or using a straw/tube of some kind). You should get ink coming out of the botton of the print head, both color and black. Replace and print head and test print.

Excellent solution. May want to run the maintenance clean head action from the printer menu on the printer and also print a horizontal line test page to make sure the heads are aligned properly.

Wow! If only I'd read this solution before trying all the other methods to clean the printhead and then buying a new one (which subsequently didn't work anyway). Thanks for a brilliant hint, you're a star!

Take out the printhead---remove both cartriges---cover the whole printhead for 15 minutes in rubbing alcohol---be sure it is 100% clean and dry---reinstall with good cartrigee---Mine now works!
