What does the blue screen say? This link is from Dell Support and has many different programs that should help you out. You could also download and install a Linux version. Ubuntu is quick and easy.

Need SETUP recovery CD

You can possibly purchase one from Dell, if it is not too old or download your OS as an ISO, burn it to a DVD and there you go. All you need then is to download the specific drivers for your machine to get it to work properly.

I just want to restore my Dell Inspiron 6000 to it's factory state, but of course it didn't come with a recovery disc. Is it possible to do so without it, or am I gonna have to buy one somewhere. ...

When the Dell loading screening comes up, press [Ctrl]+[F11]

If done at the right time this will bring up the system restore menu, if not, just reboot and try again as the timing can be a little tricky.

Once in the Menu select the 'Restore' option.

On the next screen select 'Confirm'

The process will take a bit, make sure your laptop is on AC power while doing this.

How do i restore my pc to factory condition without the disc, when i try and use the disk, there is a disk read error. I've already tried F11 and ctrl F11 at the boot menu.

Turn on the computer.

When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time.

In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, click Restore. Alternatively, press <Tab> to highlight Restore, and then press <Enter>.

My daughters computer is a dell latitude D610 notebook running Windows XP.....when powering up XP starts to load and then goes to a blank blue screen....Is there a restore disc or something i can download...

Hi. I provided you a link where to download the restore disk. Once you have downloaded the restore disk, here's the instruction on how to use the disk.

  • Backup all the data you want to keep on an external hard drive, flash drive, or rewritable CD. Resetting your Dell to factory defaults will erase all data currently on your computer.

  • 2

Insert the Recovery CD into your CD-ROM.

  • 3

    Reboot your computer.

  • 4

Watch the text in DOS carefully. When prompted to boot from your CD, do so.

  • 5

Choose System Restore and then follow the instructions presented. Once system recovery beings, it may take a few minutes. Once it's done, your system will reboot again.

  • 6

Remove the Recovery CD from your CD-ROM and store it carefully. Your system has been reset to the factory default.

If you are just wanting to restore the machine to a factory state you can follow these instructions according to the manual which can be found at

    To use PC Restore:

    1 Turn on the computer.
During the boot process, a blue bar with appears at the top of the screen.

2 Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press <Ctrl><F11>.
If you do not press <Ctrl><F11> in time, let the computer finish restarting, and then
    restart the computer again.

NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.

3 On the next screen that appears, click Restore.

4 On the next screen, click Confirm.
The restore process takes approximately 6–10 minutes to complete.

5 When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer.
NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot.

    6 When prompted, click Yes.
The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the
screens that appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that
appeared the first time the computer was turned on.

    7 Click Next.
The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.

8 After the computer restarts, click OK.

If you need the actual disk, you can check your warranty here by entering your service tag from the side of the machine. If its in warranty you should be able to get a new set shipped to you.

If not, you can contact Dell here and asking for information on replacement disc for your model.

I hope this helps. Please remember to rate this information.

A blue screen is an operating system error. this can be caused by either a corrupt operating system or a failed hard drive. What you will need to do is run a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take then reformat the hard drive and install a fresh operating system. If you have any issues during or after the format or install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced.
